Long story short, registered for an outdoor grill for my wedding a few months ago.  Came from Amazon and we didn't realize til after it was assembled that it's a Natural Gas unit instead of Propane (same instruction manual for the NG as well as LP).  Wife called and spoke with Amazon today and they said we could ship it back for a gift card, which we could then use to buy the correct Propane grill, but they said it has to be in a cardboard box.

The catch is, we no longer have the original packaging as it was pretty torn up.

They said to box it up assembled and they'll have UPS/Fedex pick it up, but I'm thinking it's going to be too big/heavy/awkward assembled to effectively box it up without the box getting fucked up in shipping.

So what are your thoughts?  I'm worried if I disassemble everything, it'll still end up all scratched and dented in shipping since some of the parts are pretty heavy and it might be hard to effectively cushion everything without spending $100 on bubble wrap.

Can't you just switch the feed hose?

Most LP and NG grills have kits for that.

Called Weber today and I guess they don't sell conversion kits.  Apparently it's more than just the hose.  The jets in the burners need to be larger for NG.  If they're used in conjunction with LP, too much gas is emitted and it can cause issues.

Stretch wrap the entire unit then stick the call tag/shipping barcode on it.

Or wrap it up, go to walmart or whatever and grab a big box from the stockers that they dont need. Disassemble it enough so it isn't a giant fuck, but not in a billion pieces.

It's a Weber Spirit E310 Natural Gas.  Obviously, I need it to be Propane.

That was my solution, but the lady at Amazon was adamant that it had to be in a box for them to accept it.  Maybe I'll try calling UPS and see if the stretch wrap is cool with them, I have no experience shipping items this large.

Thanks, looking at this right now.  Looks like it may be cheaper/easier than I originally thought.

This, I will give the OP $100 and come pick it up now. I will even throw in a rusted-out grill, so he’s not without.

Can you buy NG in small tanks? Or is this more for people who have an outdoor kitchen setup?
