What happened to the little triangle windows in older vehicles?

They are much better for airflow than the current full style glass.

For the record im 25, so this isn't an old guy remembering the good old days.

they were known as vent windows......with a/c and a desire for lower weight there is no longer a need.....at least that is what your overlords think.....

I love those.
Likely stopped because of cost, aerodynamics, style.
Or it was Bush's fault.

Best for smokers. Lord knows smokers are a piece of shit not to be catered to anymore.

Both of my broncos had them.

I'm guessing the reason is that they're so damn easy to get through by a crook.  Honestly I don't know why they stopped making them.

Bingo.

I like them on my '73 but I wouldn't want them on my new vehicle.

Money was the reason, one window is a lot less complex and costly. They fixed the security issue long ago with the heavy latches but you needed to use them.

Weight, drag and security.  Yes, they were it for ventilation but modern HVAC systems have less drag.

Also cuts down on parts count, making cars cheaper.  Simple quarter windows were manual operated but luxury vehicles had regulators like the main windows, some electric.

Originally, the main windows were rectangular because that was the easiest to make channels for the window to slide.  Now, the windows have a bottom valence which is the guide mechanism, the window channel on the front are only for the seal.

Not sure on the jeeps.  I only have experience with jeeps with no doors/ half doors.

My 91 F-150 has them and it gets a good breeze blowing directly at you while driving.

I miss them, I have been driving my parents 01' grand am because my truck is in the shop.  Its just an extra car for them to have in case of emergencies, and the A/C is broke.  Not enough ventilation even with all the windows down.

My F250 has them and I love them.  I'm guessing they were a vehicle security problem.

I loved opening up that little triangle vent and getting a direct blast of 60mph wind after mowing someone's yard.   Besides the already mentioned problems, what about when the seal dried out and shrank and no matter how hard you tried to shut the thing it ALWAYS did that high pitch whistle... aaarr!

My '63 Linc has them, and I love them.  The car doesn't have AC though, so they are just about a necessity.  BUt... they don't seal perfectly (pretty close), and they are kinda loud.  But it's a '63 so whaddya expect.

The first-generation Prius had them, but they didn't open.

Love them, glad to have them on my second vehicle, 87' F150.  If you get in soaked with sweat, running down the highway with those open will jet-dry your clothes in just a few minutes.  Cranking the AC will leave you wet and chilly.

I'm about to send my set on my '66 Mustang off to get re-chromed. Love the old school cars!

I couldn't tell you what the last vehicle was, but my 1995 F-150 still has them, so they go at least that late.

I use them constantly, especially on the freeway on days like today. Not hot enough to use the a/c, but just warm enough for some fresh air without making your hair blow all over the place. And yes, they're a god-send for smokers.
