I want to start crafting my father in law a leather trapshooting bag for Christmas. I'm not too familiar with trapshooting though, what is the most useful bag for shooting? I've seen a few that look like pouches with loop holders at the top for 4 shells. Just not exactly sure what to make. Any help would be appreciated

usually the pouches have an internal divider so you can split your shells from your hulls.  each side should be big enough to accommodate 25 shells minimum.

This.  You should be able to fit the whole box in one side cardboard and all. Make sure you have enough room for 25 spent shells on the other including the extra length from being shot.  The four extra rounds are for if you get the butter fingers and one of your rounds fall down range.

Actually they are for duds or the very real possibility of shooting a target which come off the trap arm partially broken.

We always used one box holder like you describe and a mesh bag for empties.
