Wondering if anyone has had a GMC 1500 4x4 transmission rebuilt or replaced lately? Im starting to think mine may need it soon. Its a 1999 with the 5.3 engine and i believe the 4l60e transmission.

Just had my Ford AOD replaced with a reman unit at the dealership and it was 2750. Chevy is probably close to that. It came with reman TC as well.

The days of the $600 off the shelf GM tranny swap are long over.
I was a little surprised, like you, when I got hit for nearly 3k on my Buick.

You might try to find a smaller local shop.  Here in Greenville, SC there is a place that will R&R and build for a cheap price.  96 Monte Carlo was around $1200.  They also only charged about cost for the R&R so they made all their money on the rebuild.  That alone knocked off about 400-500.
