Goodbye, Paki-made WASR...

Hello, Mosin M91/30 PU...

'43 Tula ex-sniper, selected for bore condition and accuracy, returned to sniper configuration using an original '43 Progress scope and mount.

I paid about $350 for the AK several years ago, before prices got nuts. My dad recently expressed interest in one, and I knew he was in the process of putting another PU together, so I offered him a trade. I shot the AK rarely and prefer my AR, so it didn't bother me to let it go - especially since it was staying in the family anyway.

This will be my Vintage Sniper Match rig. It's been tuned up by George Tossan - barrel recrowned, trigger lightened to 2.5lb, bore polished.

I'm quite pleased.

Mostly, karate rifles suck.  But since it is a historically correct sniper version I can forgive for this transgression.

Don't wreck the scope karate chopping the action open.

Nice gun, but I think everyone should have at least one AK in their collection, as they're just such a ubiquitous gun historically.

Feel the same way about Glocks.   Not my favorite, but my collection wouldn't be complete without a G-19, which is always a crowd pleaser with noobs I take to the range for the first time.  They tend to love AK's as well.

Yeah, great trade.  You swapped a below average, junkie AK for a Mosin Sniper.  Very very cool!

Haven't tested it yet. The base rifle was a great shooter, so it should be fine. The two others my Dad has built like this are both sub-MOA rifles with handloads, and are capable of accurate shots all the way out to 1000 yards.

My Dad didn't come out too badly on this either. He already had the scope and mount sitting around, all he needed was a good quality ex-sniper. And while my old WASR is cosmetically challenged, it's free of the issues that can plague WASRs - no canted front sight, no trigger slap.

I have a '43 Mosin. You should have also gotten a Saiga AK47 to replace the WASR and had both :)

I'll replace the AK eventually. I've still got an SKS and a Rasheed, so my stock of 7.62x39 ammo was not part of the deal.

I rebuilt an Izhevsk sniper years ago back when you could get them for $79 at Big 5.

Since my friend was a manager there, he would let me go through the newest shipments in search of an ex-sniper.

even managed to get my 1943 M44 that way too for $50!

Nice Mosin. I still want one of those.

Also, where in the blue flying fuckstick do you get Paki tape in the US?
