Instead of putting this on a ballot and having the town decide the city council passed a vote to give 16 and 17 year olds the right to vote and also felons the right to vote.

So in local elections you don't have to be 18 to vote, just like in state and Federal elections, ie the Constitution?

That's blatant ageism right there!  Why draw the line at 16?   Why, many 12 year olds are fully competent and aware of complex political issues.

Without reading it, is it Tacoma/Langley Park?

Just watched it. Takoma Park is a communist town.

What do you have against 3 year olds? Most of them are smarter than Sheila Jackson Lee.

Interesting they can circumvent the Constitution.
The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.
How do you figure they are circumventing the Constitution? The Constitution just says you cant prevent anyone who is 18 or older from voting.

So you are arguing that allowing 16 year-olds to vote abridges the right to vote of those 18 and older?

ETA:  i.e. dilution of votes

My 3 year old nephew is smarter than Sheila Jackson Lee.  He even knows that his Mommy and Daddy have Geico for insurance.

(Because every he sees a Geico commercial he says "Geico!")

Used to live in Takoma Park (Tacky Park). Full of hippies, libs, tree huggers. The city once decided not to buy any thing from any company that had anything to do with Nuclear Weapons, found out they couldn't buy Jack point Shit. They couldn't even replace their police cars. What a bunch of limp wristed, grass eatin', pony tailed wearin' assholes.

It is a very liberal town so they will continue to vote the way they normally would. The issue at hand is when an area that is fairly evenly split politically have the leftist use this as a precedence to do the same it can dramatically change the landscape. It is even another avenue for voter fraud.

Kids that age don't even know how to put on a condom correctly and you want to trust them to have a clue who's right for public office?
Link Posted: 9/9/2013 5:43:38 PM EDT
It is not unconstitutional, it is for local town/city election. If it were for State office it must follow state election law. In Maryland, counties and incorporated cities/towns are creations of the state, the state is supreme.

This could be useful for some ARFCOMmers in MD once their new gun control kicks in.

Just put images of the faces of the candidates next to the check boxes on the ballots.
