The thing that concerns me with these action movie remakes, is the gratuitous use of CGI.

In some movies (like this one) it will merely annoy me. In other proposed films (like Das Boot), I'm livid even thinking about it.

I hear they are extending the volleyball scene to be a full hour in length.  Total length for the movie is 90 minutes.

30 Minute volleyball scene?

I am really convinced that movies like Top Gun are like Bruce Springsteen songs. Most people think they are flag wrapped and dripping with patriotism, the reality is they (hollywood) is mocking people who cheerlead America.

After 29 years the only thing Maverick be flying would be a desk.

I'm suprised they didn't have something stupid like Maverick had a kid and he competes against Goose's kid who blames Maverick and then they end up depending on eachother as a plot for a sequel.

I think they will fly SR-71's off the carrier!  It is because I feel the need, the need for speed!!!!  You should be able to put 60 or so AMRAAMs on the SR 71.  Maybe we could get uninverted images of a Mig-28 close up :)  Now that we have some Mig-29s and some Su-27s maybe we can get some real commie aircraft on the screen!

How I wish more filmmakers would abstain from using CGI, or at least keep it minimal.

My dad flew USAF fighters for 36 years.  The navy may be different.

I will say, however, of the many fighter pilots I've known, and there were very many, the character TC played in that movie was complete bullshit.

Watch Maverick as he commands a fighter wing that can't afford to fly in their actual airplanes.

Watch the drama as Maverick's wingman's family life falls apart because of excessive alcohol abuse.

Check out these CGI F-35s in one kick ass scene that hits all of our nostalgia buttons about the cold war.

Let's play some volleyball.

i find it annoying when they use cgi on scenes that could easily been done with live action on set.

Why can't the asshole just make another Iron Eagle, not like it could get worse.  This time just rescue a transgendered fighter pilot from Iran using a F-152 with JATO assist.

Just watched this with a 26 yr old co-worker who had never seen it. She pointed out a few things I never noticed. First, Tom Cruise has a huge unibrow the whole movie. Second, Kelly McGillis is ugly and her teeth are fucked up. Thirdly, everyone is sweaty, no matter what they are doing. WTH? We've come a long way in movies I guess?

He looked really, really old in Edge of Tomorrow. There's no way he's going to be able to convincingly play the same character, unless all he does now is fly a desk.

Well, it could damn well be Maverick + 30 years... couldn't it? In Navy years, he'd probably be close to retiring, if not retired already. Doesn't have to necessarily be all about Maverick, now does it?
