I took my No-bans to the indoor range yesterday, and one has a Phantom, one has a Vortex.  The range I go to is dimly lit over the booth area.  When shooting with the Phantom, I noticed very little or no flash whatsoever.  The Vortex equipped rifle left a very small, but definately more noticeable flash than the phantom.  Granted, it was not totally dark, just a little bit dim.  Same ammo, same barrel length.  I know this goes against what most people say about these two flash hiders, but it's what I saw with my own two eyes.  My friend was there, and he noticed the same thing.

ok, so what are the other details?

what ammo, length of barrel, gas system, etc?

Ammo: Q3131A
Barrels: both 14.5" Bushmaster 1/9
Gas system: standard carbine length gas tubes

Again, this was just my observation from inside a dimly lit indoor range, not total darkness.

Obviously your eyes are out of calibration. Get new ones.

Thanks, but isn't half the fun of going to an indoor range watching your targets burst into flames?

I speak (type) the truth!  Nothing against the Vortex, just an observation I wasn't able to make for myself before 9/13.

Is your Vortex a copy-cat or is it a verified Smith Enterprises Vortex?

How can you tell the difference in a real and copy cat Vortex? I just bought one today at the show and it looks nice, the 4 prongs do not have much of a tist to them though. They are straight and kinda offset from one another. Havent shot it yet, but it sure looks sweet........ Was only 32.00

I have ALWAYS liked the phantom better anyway. It looks way cooler too.

I thought it was in Southampton?  I have been to that range a few times.  It is a nice clean and well run place. The FA toys you can rent make the trip woth it.

I prefer the $8 three prong myself. Works about as well as the Vortex.

I have owned both, (Yes, it was a real Smith Vortex...)both do the job as well as the other.

The rest is just bullshit.

Oh, and the Phantom looks better, too...

Southhampton is the same thing as Bensalem, only different.

Maybe you're right, I always confuse which suburb is which

I have seen Vortex knock-offs at shows - they don't have the right twist. If you look thru a gap in the prongs, you should see another prong, not an empty space.
