In Michigan, you have to register any firearm that the length is under 30” as a pistol. I have just completed a Polish Underfolder AK47 kit and took it down to the cop shop for a “MI safety inspection”.
Here’s how it went: First of all the clerk did not have a clue how to do it. I gave her a print out of the MI law that I had printed out from the internet. She started reading my stuff, which, as you can imagine, is very long. A cop walked by, looked at my rifle , and said it was illegal since it had a Bayonet lug on it. I told him nicely that the AWB bad sunset on Sept 14 and that this was a configuration that was now allowed. He then went on his way mumbling something under his breath that I did not hear thru the Bullet proof glass. The clerk was still reading the documentation. The next cop walks up and started finger fucking my rifle and asks me point blank if its “full auto”. I told him “no, it’s not, those are still regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934, and thus not legal without jumping thru a bunch of hoops. I added that there are (5) U.S. made parts inside to comply with federal regulation 922r”. He then said the only time he seen one of these was when “getting shot at”. I said to him, “come on now”, in a don’t give me this bullshit tone, “people around here don’t shoot at your guys with AK-47’s”, and he laughed it off with a sheepish grin. I then said, “it would be pretty silly to bring an illegal weapon down here to the cop shop to get registered, now would’nt it?” He then walked away. Man, when will they learn that the laws only apply to the law abiding people and that the criminal element ignores them. At least I have a Polish under folder registered as a pistol here in MI. That means I can carry it under my CCW. I guess that 30 Rds. of 7.62x39 ends the 45ACP vs. 9MM which is better debate [:0] Echap |

Which county, and did they register it?
Clinton county SO would register a brick as a handgun if you asked them to and paid the $12.00 |
Kent County, and yes, I have a green card. And no fee, go figure! |
What was the total cost for registering it, and do they still take a thumbprint? Its it still a triplicate form, one for you, one for the county, and one for the state?

Canton MI, 1991. I took my CZ85 to the local PD to get the inspection. The inspecting officer kept playing with the safety to get it to decock. Finally he asked me how to decock it. He looked at me like I had a horn growing out of my head when I told him to put his thumb on the hammer, pull the trigger, and ride the hammer forward.

I found one, but I am having trouble with the Bayonet jabbing my testicles |
We just do it "Mexican Carry" style down here on the border! BigDozer66 |
Zero, nada, zilch. It was a FREEBIE from the the county No thumbprint, I did sign triplicate forms. It was actually easy after she read the stuff. |
You now have the coolest CCW gun in the state. Do you have a holster for it yet?
Yup. |

.......at least we can have it. I guess it's been that way since 1968. Right ,wrong, or indifferent, it's the way the law is and that's how I had to do it. |
NICE IRON BigDozer! Sly |
That is a sweet rifle, where'd you get it? Digital |

Echap,
I am glad that you posted, I am getting ready to assemble un underfolder and was wondering about the registration part. Did they give you any trouble since you built it? I would like to get an AK pistol just to take it in for the "safety inspection". The one moron that does most of the registration here is a total idoit. He keeps his finger on the trigger and points the weapon at everyone and their brother in the room. Last time I went in with a revolver, I opened the gate to show him that it was empty. I closed the cylinder and handed it to him. He fumbled around with it and asked me how to open the cylinder. Then he became real indigent when he asked where the safety was and I told him it didn't have one, the person carrying it was the safety. |

Wow!! A mean, green, kaboom machine. Oops...sorry Dozer. Couldn't resist. Nice looking rig. Seriously. I like the two tone look. Good looking "pistol" you have there too echap. That would make a hell of a concealed carry outfit. Here in Colorado we have "Concealed Pistol Permits". And rifles under 30" are still rifles. So handguns are all we get to carry. I think a mini-CAR would be cool. |
Nice AK by the way. It would look really good next to mine. Where is your bayonet? |
nice!
amen; criminals BREAK the laws in the first place, what will make them FOLLOW the law inthe first place????????? |

yeah, but now you have get involved with the 5.45 v. 7.62 debates! |
It is a Global Trades - Arsenal USA model. www.globaltrades.com It all ILikeLegs fault that I own it! Thanks Legs! It shoots nice and makes a great teaching tool about how ignorant the AWB was in the first place! BigDozer66 |
I don't have one yet! My 7.62 x 39 will not kill anyone at the moment because I don't have a bayonet on it. Where did you get yours at? BigDozer66 |
Ah the things we have to put up with just to stay legal. I feel your pain, but now you can have a nice big grin when you go shooting it.
got me there
I'd have to find a pre 94 one and spend tons of money
Got it from Global Trades. They were on the table when you bought your rifle. But they could have sold out by then. Go to his website and order one. |
Duuude, now you need a under the armo shoulder rig, and a trench coat...
Imagine some homie trying to rob ya, and you pull that thing out. Instant shit in the pants for him. |
How can I get one of those for my WASR-10 full-cap? The folding stock, I mean.
Big dozer that is one hell of a finish on that AK, I can be sure it is not the original finish, it looks awesome....
My God! To think of the bullshit you must go through to exercise your rights.
Criminals registering guns! What a riot! This country is hosed with shit like this becoming more and more prevalent. |
California = Nazi Germany UNBEFUCKINGLEIVEABLE! |
Nope, a buddy of mine has a side folding Galil on his CCW! Carries it loaded on the front seat. |
He meant in the break room. On the Xbox. |
Damn cops, wasting all their time playing Counter-Strike! |
Just like most (NOT all) cops, they think the know everything, Then when you prove them wrong you are all of a sudden a "trouble maker".
Their fucking Ego's need to be put in check. |
Where did you think they get all their mad skills and firearms knowledge?? S.O. |
I thought they got them the same place so many people here have.
online |
No, that's where they hone their razor sharp people skills and conflict resolution abilities. S.O. |
Already solved wasnt it, remember dont register a 5.45x39 pistol.. I need an underfolder. |
Hey Echap, Do you have a link to where I can get a copy of the law to print out? I've been looking, but couldn't find it. Thanks! Tall Shadow |
Heres the site, download Michigan firearm laws, its on page 139 www.michigan.gov/msp/1,1607,7-123-1591_3503_4654---,00.html Note it's down this morning. |
Would the 5.45 pistol issue apply here since it is only a pistol in the states eye not the federal eye? Kent |
Did you get a permit to purchase before assembly of the folding stock? If so did you use your name as both buyer and seller? BTW, here is my pistol... |
I have to admit you'd get extra style points for carrying that around "Heat" style, slung under your suit coat.
FREE??? where at??? I live in kent county and registered a S&W model 52 pistol at the sherifs office in grand rapids a few months ago. The lady troll behind the counter told me it would cost $5.00 (it used to be free).
