I see that all the time around Phoenix.
Lots of Sheriff's deputies here carry 1911s and Peoria (a major suburb of Phoenix) issues its officers a kick-ass SIG tactical 1911. |
|
hell,i had swat show up at my house looking for a previous owner a couple weeks ago.the swat boss had a 1911 with pearl grips on his side!!

Got me thinking. The last time I recall seing police/security guards carrying revolvers was the early 90's.
|
|
|
I saw a Philly cop carrying a revolver about 2 weeks ago.

Funny, I saw a Deputy at Racetrack gas station carrying a custom 1911 today also. First time I've seen one as dept issues G-21's.

Chief of Police here in town carries his personal 1911.

It's not all that uncommon to see smaller department officers around here with 1911s. Not a lot of them, but I've seen a few. Used to eat in a restaurant around Decatur where some Texas Rangers would show up, and a couple of them carried some good looking ones.

LEO ( or anybody else for that matter ) should carry whatever sidearm he/she is proficient with.
1911 is a viable platform for any person that's capable of running it. So is a .357 revolver with a 4" barrel. Not everybody needs 17 rounds of 9mm |

Are you sure it wasn't a 2011

I don't think I have ever seen a cop carry a 1911.

Several CO county sheriffs carry them; saw them at the state house last year.

Local Sheriff carries a polished 1911 with mother of pearl grips. It is a bit of a BBQ gun.

I've had my avatar since 2004. The pic came about after my daughter made the startling (to her) revelation that her little pink pony toy was actually engraved on the side of my Colt carbine ...

Our county sheriff still carries a big ass S&W .357
|
|
|
Not that uncommon around here, especially for county sheriff departments outside metro areas.
The security guard down at the Brookshires grocery store carries a judge. I'm praying it's at least loaded with 45's. |
|
|
I carried one for years until the first Glock came out. Never went back. No hate on the 1911 though.

Anaheim PD carries (or at least authorizes them) them or did, years ago saw them on bike patrol outside Disney Land. One guy had a 5" stainless and I hope he made someone wet themselves by just the sight of it.

I know a deputy that does, at least he always is when I see him in plain clothes after he gets off duty. Never seen him in uniform.

One of our reserve officers used to carry a Colt 1911, complete with plastic grips. I asked him why he chose that sidearm, and he says, "Because the Colt 45 is the best handgun in the world." I just walked away.

My buddy is an "old timer" and carries a wheelgun. He's been in several shoot outs, and "won" them all. He said, "I don't need 15 rounds, when I can kill you just as easily with 5." |

I'd feel comfotable with a 1911. The only thing I see as bad is the capacity and reloading. Why he wouldn't carry a G21 is beyond me since bad guys have capability of more rounds etc, just me but again I wouldn't feel under gunned with a 1911

Local deputies here pretty much carry whatever they want. Department issue is G22 but I see lots of 1911, Sig, and even the occasional revolver.
There is a constable a few counties over that carries a S&W 629. ![]() |

I actually started getting interested in firearms when I noticed the cop in front of me in line at McDonalds one day had the hammer back on what I later figured out was a 1911. This was many moons ago.
