Has anyone heard this. I like it. They just played it on the radio and then told how it was scheduled to be played on a 4th of july TV special. Too pad Peter "dipshit" Jennings heard the song and got the station to ax it.

I'll see if I can find a link to the song. It has the lyric "we'll put a boot in your ass" so it must be good.

"I find it interesting that he's not from the U.S.," Keith says of Jennings, who is Canadian. "I bet Dan Rather'd let me do it on his special."

I bet he wouldn't, since he's a stark raving liberal.  Why haven't we revoked his Texas Citizenship yet?

I'm no Toby Keith fan, but I may become one.  Someone needs to take up the slack left by Bocephus and Charlie Daniels.

Remember the Alamo, and God Bless Texas...

I may be in the minority here, but I don't like it (the song not the message). Something about the song and it timing seems a little too much like he is just jumping on the band wagon. I personally don't think he would have released this song before Sept. 11th, and something about that just puts it off for me. Also his recent stuff just hasn't been as good as the older songs.

I like this singer/song writer and his work better as a patriotic musician, and interestingly enough, he is a Canadian: http://www.fredeaglesmith.com
One of his better songs (for this crowd anyway)

I don't know anything about Toby Keith, but his old man was a great guy, funny as hell and lived pretty hard...  So best of wishes to Toby, because his dad was one cool cat.

Hey, I never got to say it.

That would have been interesting. Would have made him one of Dionne's psychic friends, since the song is about us fighting back AFTER 9/11....

Scott

P.S. I would have been quicker getting the link to my question over there, but I watched the videos for "I Wanna Talk About Me" and "How Do You Like Me Now?"

Toby Keith

American girls
And American guys
We'll always stand up and salute
We'll always recognize
When we see ole' glory flyin'
There's a lot of men dead
So we can sleep in peace at night
When we lay down our heads

My daddy served in the army
When he lost his right eye
But he flew a flag out in our yard
Till the day that he died
He wanted my mother
My brother
My sister and me
To grow up and live happy
In the land of the free

Now there's places that I love
That's fallen under attack
A mighty sucker punch came flyin' in
From somewhere in the back
Soon as we could see clearly
Through our big black eye
Man we lit up your world
Like a Fourth of July

Hey Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fists
And the people will fly
And it's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bells
And It'll feel like the whole wide world
Is raining down on you
Ohhh....
Brought to you courtesy...
Of the RED, WHITE, and BLUE

Oh..Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
when you rattle his cage
You'll be sorry that you messed with
the U S of A
Cause we'll put a boot in your ass
It's the American way

Hey Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list
And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fists
And the people will fly
And it's gonna be hell
When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bells
And It'll feel like the whole wide world
Is raining down on you
Ohhh....
Brought to you courtesy...
Of the RED, WHITE, and BLUE

Ohhh...
Ohhh....
Brought to you courtesy...
Of the RED, WHITE, and BLUE

Thank you for proving my point![:D]

What I meant was I don't think he would have released a patriotic song before 9/11, not just this particular one.

It is a good song. It's nice to hear more good patriotic songs being sung lately.

If I hear Lee Greenwoods "God Bless the U.S.A." one more time, I may go nuts.  It's a good song, but I've heard it way too many times since 9/11.  It's nice to have more modern patriotic songs, as it was out of fashion for so long.

Sadly, most people didn't get patriotic until after 9/11, and soon most people will be back to their old "it's just a piece of cloth" or "let's not judge" ways.  Patriotism won't last because it's hard to be patriotic and cynical at the same time, regardless of which side you lean on.

However, I have no problem with someone writing a patriotic song after a tragedy like 9/11 if that's how they truly feel.

BTW, do you read much Orson Scott Card?

That is why it was just released last month.  He wrote the song a few days after 911, but he would only play it at concerts.  If you think his timing is bad, what about Alan Jackson's song?  It was played on the radio almost constantly since 911.  We had to wait until May 2002 to hear Toby's song on the radio!!!!
