I am looking for a quality but low priced tire pump suitable for pumping up car tires. I am tired of driving around looking for air at gas stations. I have used a Zefal Husky high pressure pump but it was slow. Also the hose finally let go.

I want a high volume, but not high pressure pump. Any suggestions? The red pump at Nashbar looks good. Any comments?

If you would spring for Fred Flintstone rock tires you wouldn't have this problem.

buy a 12-volt compressor that plugs into the cigarette lighter

Save yourself a lot of work and buy a $20 12 volt automotive air compressor at WalMart.

Or do what chokey said.

You could always just get one of those Jump battery packs that have a built in compressor. Never a problem if you have a dead battery and a pump if you have a slow leak
eta: it will only work if you have a schrader valve though

I can use some exercise, and plugging in is a pain. Those compressors that I've used in the past were always slow. I just want to top off once in a while.

I just use a floor pump I got from Bike Warehouse(now nashbar.com to give you a idea of how old it is) a long time ago for my bikes.
Probably work okay for car tires since it fills bike tires pretty fast.
I just looked at it and its a Zefal HP doubleshot. Pumps on the up and down stroke.

Most reliable pump I have ever owned is a Silca. The larger unit is better for larger tires.
Barring that, buy an air compressor.
