I'm getting back to basics. I took all my tacticool stuff off the AR today in preparation for giving the irons a good sighting in session, since the weather's warming up.

I sighted in the 20" last weekend. Now it's the M4's turn.

It's a Del-Ton upper on a Bushy lower. YHM BUIS and the standard magpul stuff.

I don't see that as "pimped."

I'd call it "improved."

Functional tools for specific jobs.

Why the hell don't you have your backup iron sites zeroed?

That's the first thing I do.

I got the BUIS in the winter, and haven't had a chance to properly bench the rifle and sight them in.

They're pretty close, but were zeroed from a standing position in less than ideal circumstances.

Should we start argueing about who has the least stuff on their AR?

I've got 'em in all flavors.

But here's the basic model:

Anything more is altered.  Not wrong.  Not less of a rifle.  Just added to.

You may be right. But the handguard slip ring, and not one of those new fangled delta rings balances it out.

Another plain jane...

I'm with G-man. A red dot and light aren't "pimping" an AR, they allow it to function better.

Flash light I can see, but beyond that you are compensating for marksmenship. Unless your are going for a telescopic sight.[shrug/]

Itz still pimped.

I have no problem with "crap" on an AR as long as it is functional and pertains to the mission at hand.

While a plain Jane A2 is a good collectors item, it wouldn't be my fighting rifle.  I would rather have an EOTech/Aimpoint/ACOG, a collapsible stock, BUIS and a weapon light.  Those things add so much to the AR-15 platform.

It is no more pimped out than adding cruise control, ABS breaks and power stearing to a car.

Not quite an accurate analogy.  An M4 is like a 1/4 dirt track car where an A2 is more of a long oval car.

The A4 was the only change to the rifle platform based on modern optic durability.  Back in the 1980s when the A2 was bening developed, dependable optics were in their infancy which is why irons were specified.
