How does a lowly forum mod
 over-ride site staff??? TBK was posting in the cat thread and did not seem to have a problem with it....... Just trying to understand the pecking order around here.

Protocol calls for posting a link to the first one if a thread is to be locked as a dupe--not always possible, or even necessary if the first one if on the front page, but with BW no longer an issue, we are much more tolerant of multiple threads. <shrug> |

Seriously, I have seen a few threads where mods/site staff are posting but another mod comes along and locks..... I really just want to know who is higher on the food chain when it comes to locks. |

Ah hell Eric, Im not gonna dig all that crap up. Reference any of the heated Islam threads that were locked for starters. Go ahead and lock this as I really did not intend to start a heated discussion. I was just sort of having fun and wanting to know the pecking order as far as staff vs. moderator. IBTL

I am actually suprised at the number of people I see with moderator status. I see people I never recognized before popping up as mods.
How does someone end up a mod anyway? |

These things happen--we're not perfect, but also it sometimes works out where a Mod or Staff was posting at 3:00 PM and at 7:00 PM while the first guy is passed out drunk, the thread goes to pot and has to be locked. If one does not notice the time stamp, it would appear the thread was locked with "participation" of another. Usually that's not the case. This one was a little odd, but no biggee--it happens. I'm guessing Paul just opened the thread, saw the link had been posted <several times> before and locked it, without bothering to read all the posts in the thread. We commonly do that. Again--no biggee.

I assume that it was the cat getting it's head cut off in the ford with the power sunroof.
It wasn't locked because I don't really really like you, or him, or even cats ... it was so six months ago, like so many other threads from the past. Moderators, staff and even the owners have posted in threads that have been locked, many not even seeing the violation or in this case, remembering the threads that we did before discussing the merits of a sun roof that could kill a cat. I moderate this forum under the rules set before me. This is like the third time I remember seeing that tread, hell I even have a copy of the video on my hard drive I can send you if you'd like - and one with the arab guy shooting the rifle that flys out of his hand ... but in order for the rest of us to talk about new things we've been locking duplicate threads. Those of us who are members can even do a search and relive last year over and over and over again There has been a discussion on a cat and dog forum just to post such stuff in too  Here's the pecking order: Everyone else other than us. You. Me. Dirt.

There has long been 100+ Mods spread throughout the board. When the site was relaunched, GoatBoy decided to again leave the "Moderator" tag under everyone's name, regardless of where they are posting--instead of only in their own forum. Dunno why--I don't care for it, as it makes it look like EVERYONE is a Mod. If you look at the "Area"--General, AR15, Hometown, etc.--you will see on the right the list of actual Mods for each forum. GD only has four currently--tc6969, Paul, TheBeerSlayer, and Glock918. Anyone else has no Mod powers in the GD, despite the "Moderator" title under their name. |

No, as of last week he's taking a break (at his own request). It's a real grind working as a GD Mod, and one can only do it for so long--if they are active and actually DOING the job (as DF was). We are working on a plan to automatically rotate guys in/out of the job, in order to avoid any possibility of "burn out." |

Where did you come up with that idea? It is absolutely untrue. All Mods are given a "Gold" membership for serving. Many of them were not paid members at all before being taken on as Mods. |

There was no indication he was "kidding"--and I don't want false information or rumors begun. Same with your PS--my "DF story" is absolutely true. He resigned--what's the big deal in that? I do not BS the troops here. Oh, I have the IM saved, but obviously don't post private correspondence. |
