Thoughts on 2006 GMC 3500 6.6 LBZ?

It is before the regeneration model, but what are the other major shortfalls in it?

We blew the head gaskets on ours.  I'm pretty sure it's a common problem.

Pretty widely regarded as the best Duramax.  Although the LMM (2007.5-2010) is the same engine, it has a dpf you have to deal with.  I personally think the LBZ is the best all around truck you could buy.

There are no major shortfalls.  If it's been maintained, it will be a great truck.

INB4 people say is a chunk of scrap metal because it has IFS.

Nope.

The LBZ is the best Duramax out there. No DEF, plenty of power, 6spd allison, etc.

I found the interior of my 03 to be more comfortable than my 09.  Now I want a '15 Denali LML

Anythings possible but this was not common. I think the early gen duramax had some head issues but they snubbed that out pretty fast. What year was your uncles?

Late 06 here, stock work truck,  ate the gaskets at 30k.  I believe it was enough of a problem for an extended warranty on the head gaskets.

Was it a factory recall, or are they guaranteed past a certain point?

(As for upgrades, I mean the quality of the knobs and plastics).

They blow head gaskets. They come off warped up like a pretzel too. 0.020" rainbow and 0.002 to 0.004 twist on every one I pull.

I do not have a solid cause as to why it happens though.

I have two very close friends with 06's. They both love em. Tow regularly and one has close to 300k. Great trucks.

The LBZ is the best Duramax engine available. It's mature, backed by the 6spd instead of the 5spd Allison, doesn't have DPF, solved the high-heat issue the LLY had, the injector issues the LB7 had, and had a glut of internal updates that make it stronger.

No it's not a common problem.  It did sometimes manifest itself with the LLY, made for 2004.5 to 2005. Shortest run Duramax engine produced so far.
