The future USS New York passes lower Manhattan next to where the World Trade Center towers once stood November 2, 2009 in New York City.

And some more pics:

Awesome pictures.

On a side note...who the hell did they contract to build the freedom tower? As slow as there going it seems they could use a hand or two. I know quite a few unemployed folks that would love to have a job. IT'S BEEN NINE YEARS! Get the fucking thing built already!

Great photos!!

That's some definite American badassery right there.

"Wanna destroy my building? OK, motherfucker, but I'm building a warship out of the remains....."

Good Shit.

Nice pictures, but the story behind the ship is really not that interesting.

Giving the finger to your enemies is always interesting

Who are we going to try it out on?
Link Posted: 11/2/2009 1:33:24 PM EST
Needs more guns
Link Posted: 11/2/2009 1:33:57 PM EST
The thing that gave me the chills is the fact that they were able to build that ship faster than the fucking memorial. What a bureaucratic nightmare.

Looks nice, too bad it isn't nuke powered.

Hope she gets to kick some "COC compliant terrorist" ass!!!

So for someone who knows NOTHING about contemporary American warships, what is that?

Very cool, regardless.

Bad ass.
Link Posted: 11/2/2009 1:40:20 PM EST
That boat is awesome.

The USS New York is a first of it's kind ship made from the steel of the WTC and specifically suited to attacking and killing terrorists. That boat says to the world that when you fuck with America, we will design a new weapon specifically designed to kick your fucking ass, give it a name that will remind everyone why it was build and then we'll use the ruins of the things you destroyed to build it. If you attack us then we will build a weapon that is optimized to kill you, and then we'll use it on you.

God bless the sailors and marines serving on the USS New York. Fuck the terrorists that these sailors and marines are going to kill!

This. We built the empire state building in less time.

The ship is beautiful and I hope it kicks some ass.

Okay, that is awesome.

So when and where does it go to work?

All I know, is that New Yorkers are going to show them one hell of a time tonight.

I wish I were there!
Link Posted: 11/2/2009 1:43:50 PM EST
I wish they would just rebuild the twin towers as they were before 9/11...what would be so bad about that?

You don't say. Metal in a saltwater environment and there is rust? Impossible!

Why would it need guns? It carrys 600 angry Marines. All it needs to do is get them to the fight, which it can do easily.

Nine years later, and still nothing there but a big fucking hole. That pisses me off.

the phoenix would be appropriate as well. "so from the ashes of the fallen rises a great warbird...."

they should use some of that steel to make cruise missiles.

I know salt water is hell on steel, but they couldn't do some fresh touch up paint just before getting to NYC?

Good grief. I was working in the Verizon building next door back in January of this year and the re-construction site looked almost exactly the same. Is there some sort of intentional work slowdown, or did they discover an endangered salamander or something?

That's the slowest progress I've ever seen.

Ever try to paint a waterline at sea, in the Atlantic, in November?

This. A Boatswain's chair is hard enough to use in port.

I was supposed to be there to see this behemoth come in... I got the honor of burying a Marine veteran though... my buddies that were there said it was awesome haha. One of our SSgt's is re-enlisting on that bad boy. Pics to follow if I can get my hands on them .

A quick question for Dport or other swabbies. Where are the anchors? Do you use a crane to remove them from the chain and stow them somewhere when they aren't in active use?

The anchors are there. If you look at the bow photo, you'll see the two protrusions on either side. Those are where the anchors come out. If you look at the top of those protrusions the bottom of the anchor can be seen. It's not much to see, granted, it's flat. It's designed that way to minimize RCS.

I would post a pic, but I'm at work and can't access my photobucket account.

On the 1200 or so Marines it is designed to carry.

Thanks, that makes sense. I was thinking, damn those things have to be a pain in the ass to remove all the time. The anchors probably don't get quite as beat up since they're mostly stowed instead of exposed on the bow.

That's fucking awesome.

Good find, city boy.

Part of the rusted area, which is apparently inexcusible for some, is where the anchor runs up and down the hawsepipe. LCS-1 has a more radical design for the anchor/hawsepipe.

Teleport her to Hellman Province, and man her with NY Firefighters

They would probably give up watching the World Series for that duty
