Don't hire one for home improvements?

Looks like the Made in USA terminal survived, made in china failed?

Every single outlet/switch in my house has them.  New construction, 2010.

I've replaced every switch with what's pictured on the left.  Still have to do all the outlets.

More info needed for the uninformed.

I used to List switches and receptacles for Underwriters Laboratories. There is no way in hell that I would use screwless push-in terminals.

Backwire clamps are actually my favorite wiring method. Also, I only use the $10 outlets, not the $.29 ones out of a barrel.

So cheap Chinese plastic is why you shouldn't use a backstabber?

Maybe just avoid cheap Chinese plastic?

Work for a competitor and I agree.  They will fail eventually.

I'm currently doing this at my place.  All the outlets that were troublesome were the back stab types.  I am obviously using the screw down terminal type as I replace them.

Our outlets were circa 1957 when we bought the house.  Replaced them all with 3 prong outlets (boxes were grounded), and wired them properly.  Never liked the "new" way of fastening wires like that.  "A good mechanical connection is a good electrical connection."  Was one of the earlier lessons my dad taught me when I was a kid.  Was referring to mechanically connecting wires before soldering them, but still applies.
