After you buy an M1 and a 1911, I'd suggest you get one each of an AK (Egyptian Maadi if you want cheap), a Mauser (lots of variations to chose from), a Mosin (M91 if you like a standard length rifle or M38/44 if you like a shorter rifle), and an SKS (Romanian so that you can have the bayonet). Everyone needs these few pieces of history to hold.

AKs are, how shall I say, 'frowned upon'?? I have a friend who has an SKS with less than a hundred rounds through it. He is 'this close' to selling it to me. Problem is, I know he only paid $125 for it brand spanking new so he is not happy with my offer... |

Ditto the M1 Garand. $400 for a Danish possibly with Beretta parts... or $500 for a U.S. service grade.
Own a piece of history. Patton called it "the greatest battle implement ever devised." Speculate on where it may have served, D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, Inchon, Okinawa, "Frozen" Chosin, etc. Mine has a '44 barrel and an early '45 Springfield receiver. Receiver production lagged behind barrel production a few months so it may have the original barrel. It also has all Springfield parts, the RIA rebuild proof and a second "P" proof mark so it went through arsenal rebuild after the war. The war in Europe was winding down in early '45 but my rifle may have seen action in the Pacific Theatre. Watch [i]Saving Private Ryan[/i] and it will give you an appreciation for a tool that helped save the world from evil dictators. |

Hey, just out of curiosity, why are AK's frowned upon, but not AR's?
I was going to vote for the AK, but an FAL would also be a good addition (ya, I know ya got a AR-10, FAL's are pretty cool too). Are FAL's frowned upon as well? |

Tell your wife that the 597, um kinda disapeered and replace it with a 10/22. The 597 was my first *new* rifle and I blew up the bolt after a couple hundred rounds. I have have respect for any other Rem. except for the 597.
Also maybe a nice addition to your collection maybe would be something in .220 swift or a 22-250. Nice velocity in both of those rounds. Alex |

I notice a lot of people when they post their collection they don't have side by sides. Some very nice guns and very eligant I might add. You can drop some cash very easily on them but if you do little by little you can have a few. I like them very much and plan on getting some more.

your collection is well rounded and covers the bases. the only main catagory your missing is a rimfire pistol. after that, just go nuts. well, i guess you dont have a preban, but thats a diffrent story all togeather

FM, We are your friends and family. We only want what's best for you. As much as she loves you, your wife is enabling your addictive behavior. I doubt that in her present frame of mind that she would even bat an eye when you bring home that 98 year old Winchester Model 1902 youth rifle for your 7 yr old boy!
This is your intervention. This is where you need to go from here. You need a two week initial visit (I'm thinking Thunder Ranch or Gunsite!) and some two day follow-up sessions (like Small Arms Firing School, etc.) Couple that with some weekly peer based counseling (Does GOA really stand for Gun Owners Anonymous?).In time you will be able to come to terms with who you are both as an individual and as a loving, mutually supportive family unit. Great set...
I agree with the idea that more handguns are in order, plus some accessories. Specifically: A second and duplicate .40. You've got one; two is better and you'll have the holsters and mags and ammo. A Ruger GP-100 .357 with the 6" full underlug bbl. This is one of the most fun revolvers to shoot as it is extremely strong and very accurate with the longer bbl. A Ruger .22 pistol of whatever style suits your fancy. Beretta now has a Target model 87 .22LR that bears looking into, if the Ruger doesn't agree with you. For the evil black shotgun: accessorize the Remington 870 with anything that fills the bill for your needs; pistolgrip FULL buttstock (combat style) and forend by Choate would do; a sidesaddle shotshell holder; etc. You've got an impressive array as it is. You don't need too much more to fulfill the fun factor. P.S. Nice goin'...from a fellow Remington and Bushmaster fan. |

Well, you have all your hunting rifles. The .338 Rem Ultra Mag for elk and beer, the Armalite .308 for Pronghorn or Deer, and the Remington 870 Express for practically anything that flies or gobbles. Put a nice scope on that Armalite and go shoot some deer.
THEMAO would recommend the following..... 1. .44 magnum Model 629 S&W 2. Model 1911...I have no clue, get a Para Ordnance or Springfield. If you have $ to burn, get a Les Baer. Whatever 1911 you get, it better be a .45, cause otherwise I'll purge you. 3. Benelli M1 tactical shotgun with 2 shot extension. YOU NEED A TACTICAL SHOTGUN! 4. Mao approved AK-47 variant. Kreb's Custom makes AK-103 variants that are made out of brand new Russian parts. I'm getting one soon. 5. If you shoot a lot of trap and skeet like me, get either a Benelli Sport or FABARM Sporting CLays gun. You need a target shotgun. themao [chainsawkill] |

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! You have all confirmed a lot of my own ideas for me. In response to some of the replies:
Why not more handguns... 1- its so damn difficult here with the permit system (let's not even talk about if you have an unfriendly local PD) 2- I have a friend who owns as many pistols as I do long guns, everything from .22 to .44, so I get to use them without having to buy them. Besides, I'd rather spend my cash on long guns for a while. My Christmas list is looking like this: (feel free to comment on it) -Benneli M3 (love that semi/pump thing) -Remington VSSF in .223 or similar caliber -Armalite AR50 (I actually have this 'officially planned' with the wife for Feb. - bonus time!!) -SKS (what the hell, for $150 I might as well) Springfield M1A NM or Scout (can't decide) -HK USC (anyone used or heard anything about this??) Thanks again for the guidance! [:)] |

I would recommend that you get a Benelli Super Black Eagle. They're the best shooting shotgun around. The bonus is that you can shoot 3 1/2" shells. For a concealment pistol I recommend the Kahr P9 or P40. For regular pistol shooting the Sig Pro SP2340 is a very nice gun that will shoot .357 Sig rounds or .40 depending on which barrel you have. I have both. I also have a Glock 10mm that is very nice with preban 15 round magazines.

Forgive me for being a moron but, what's a Beretta 1201 FP (I'm guessing semi or over/under scattergun?) A Beretta 1201 FP is a semi-auto recoil operated defense shotgun. It's essentially a Benelli variant made under license by Beretta. Not as menacing looking as the Benelli , no pistol grip but about a 19-20inch barrel & a FAST no gas action! |
