My 32yo female friend was driving alone in inner-city Baltimore in a 1yo sport-compact car this weekend, at one point taking a right-hand turn at a light onto a vacant 2-way, 4-lane street. She was in the second lane from the curb with cars in the curb lane making the same turn.
The SUV that was in front of her swung wide into the opposing lanes during the turn, and came back across with the wheel hard over, stopping perpendicular to her lane of travel to the point she and the car next to her had to slam on the brakes to avoid T-boning the SUV. Four yutes jumped out and started advancing on her vehicle with at least one weapon visible. How would you react? Could you get to your carry gun while seated and belted? Do you try to drive out of there? Do you get out and run, abandoning your car? Lock the doors and call 911? How my friend handled it: Click To View Spoiler Luckily the car behind her had stopped far enough behind that she was able to go into reverse, back up several feet, switch back to drive and floor it, missing their bumper and getting out of dodge. If she hadn't been able to reverse and escape, it was going to be bumper cars.

Either drive through the ambush and attempt to smash one with my truck or shoot all them in the face. /GD

|
Drive away if possible.
Or Draw, begin firing at whoever had a weapon. |
|
Lean over pedal down and move away, if raming those that got out happens... speed bumps.
Sounds like she did good however. |
|
I'd have floored it, hoping to nail at least one of the shitbirds in the process.
|
|
pull weapon
expend ammunition until I was out of ammunition, killed, or they were dead, while driving out of the ambush zone. I have door gunner training |
|
I drive a 7000 lb crew cab diesel, and I am always armed.
In the situation described, I would run over their Trayvon asses. |
|
Probably exactly as she did, un-ass the area as quickly as possible.
If said yutes have weapons drawn, then my 4-runner becomes a several thousand pound battering ram and I ram as many as possible on my way out. |
|
Evasion.
If I can't evade it's time to pull and shoot, or utilize the yutes as speed bumps. Reaction/decision would take about 2 seconds. |
|
Due to the fact you saw a weapon and feared for your very life...
You push through hard, driving away. Try to avoid damage to your vehicle that could result in a break down. Report the incident to the police immediately. Heavy car wins vs. pedestrian almost every time. If someone got in the way, such is life. |

They allow CCW in Baltimore? Kharn |

Gun the engine til I came to a stop, and then weapon comes out.

I would have done the same. My two-ton projectile beats out my 147gr if it came to violence.

I'd have kept going in reverse around the vehicle behind me, into a J-turn and sped away, while admiring my abnormally large penis.

Kharn It's Baltimore, what carry gun? I see that has been covered. |
|
The car you are driving will be far more dangerous than a firearm in that situation

Back up, and then drive the fuck out of Baltimore*, moving somewhere where the gangsters and their apologists didn't run the city.
I have full confidence that had I ever defended myself with lethal force inside of Baltimore, that I would have been prosecuted, convicted of homicide of some sort, and put away by people who associated more with my attacker than with me. In the end, it's the people there that I fear more than the criminals. *born there, lived there for more than 2 decades. |

Clear the ambush zone asap. She did good!
This is also the reason why when I'm driving through an area that makes me uneasy I make sure my gun is accessible i.e. shirt not tucked into seatbelt. I've also been know to go ahead and put it in the center console with the top open. Doors locked, seat belt on in case you have to clear a curb or do some pushing. ETA- some are advocating to draw your weapon while driving, running over people, etc; I'd recommend you find a nice deserted area, set up some crush-able targets and try it. Obviously don't use live ammo or shoot your windshield out, but try to maneuver the car, under stress, while doing something other than concentrating on driving- like aiming a gun. In the admittedly limited driving classes and instruction I've had, I was told you almost always want to be doing one of two things, driving or fighting, but not both. The vehicle can be used as a weapon if needed (much more effective to run someone down than to try to hit them with little bullets while moving) but it's better to clear the area and an undamaged vehicle does that much better than a damaged one- especially if there's a size difference. Who knows, I could be completely full of it and totally wrong, but that's what I've been told by people who were supposedly much more knowledgeable than me. |

Interesting.
Let's just say that in my panic filled state I might not have cut my wheel far enough. |
|
Depends on the weapon.
If they have ballistic weapons capable of being an immediate threat to me at the current distance or even an extended distance, I would drive using whatever gear I was already in (attack with the car if in a forward gear, escape if already in reverse). If I'm attacking with the car, I would attempt to attack them with the car while planning an exit route. If no exit route was available I would expect my car to be disabled after colliding with the first hard obstacle I hit. I would plan to continue the fight with my gun. If the car appears to be disabled I would use the gun to clear threats on my driver side of the car, exit and retreat while engaging emerging hostiles. If they have a bat or knife or any other short range weapon I would focus first on the draw while observing the situation. Once I am armed I would use the information I ascertained to decide if I could make my escape cleanly and then do so. If at any point, the situation begins to mimic situation 1, I would deem it to be situation 1 and act accordingly. Oh, and I would do it all tactically. With my Tier 1 skills. |

My ALP got caught in the steering wheel once while performing that same maneuver. Fortunately the wheel was pointed in the right direction so I was able to use both hands on my rifle |

Several armed youth attempted to block my route & carjack me in Baltimore. I shifted down, floored the gas, and hoped they were bad marksmen.

I'd try to drive out first. I have no desire to get in a gun battle, seated in my truck.
That said, I'd aim my truck for at least one shithead, just out of principal. |
