I'm sitting here as we speak tracking three E-6B Mercury and one E-4B Nightwatch aircraft that are airborne over the CONUS. I've only been using this site for about a week now, but thus far I've never seen this many "doomsday' command aircraft airborne at the same time.

Go to Global Radar View. Once there, you can select the menu in the top left corner of the radar map, then options, then filter. There you can set it to track only military aircraft if you wish. You can drag the map wherever you want it. I have been alternating back and forth between the U.S. and Europe mostly.

Awesome! You just never know what is going to pop up or where. I suppose that is what makes this sort of thing so much fun.

Very cool - I'm thinking of patching this in to my 70" 4K HDTV so that I can watch it from across the room.

Beats most of what's available on TV any day...

hmm, I'm not in Anchorage today, but I find it hard to believe there are no military craft flying in Alaska right now...

I'm guessing that not everything is tracked/ no one in AK is tracking and supplying the info to the website.

It is a lot of fun.

A couple months ago my son and I took a trip to my grandparents near LAX and camped out and watched where all the departures were going.

Flight track? I just had a lancaster (or a mitchell) bomber and 3 wwii fighters buzz across the roadway on takeoff  from their home base...and did a few  low passes in tight formation to boot...it was awsome...

Yeah, I have been keeping DWS up as well, along with the liveuamap pages for Ukraine and Syria. Those sources have been bursting with info after today's chain of events in Syria. What a clusterfuck that has become.

Are there any other good sites for intel from around the world? Like I said, this stuff is addictive.

How is it that anyone can just log on and track military flights?

Do they go off grid if they are on an actual mission or something?

I cant see the E-6s anymore. I imagine they can decide not to be tracked.

They probably arent always shown or dont have their trackers on. I didnt see any Navy aircraft around me on the screen even though I can hear C-2s and E-2s all day long. Im only about 5 miles as the crow flies from Chambers Field aka NavSta Norfolk.

More likely is that they flew out of range of the person feeding their mode-S data to the site for that area.

If an aircraft is transmitting ADS-B it only requires one receiver for it to be shown on the site.  For mode-s only, if there aren't at least three receivers receiving flights simultaneously then it won't show on the site.  Once out of range of one it won't be on the map, but it may still show in the list.

You will never see US bombers.  Occasionally you may see some F-15s in CONUS.  There are a few A-10s from the MD ANG that transmit mode-s sometimes and they can be seen working the Patuxent ranges in the evenings

You're not seeing them because there is no one in or close to that area feeding low altitude mode-s transmissions to the site.

I was watching a global hawk fly patterns for hours the other day.

Along with an RC135 and multiple KC135's,  C-130's and on and on in the last week.

The KC call signs are amusing.  the only one I can remember at the moment was Happy54.

Way cool site. I'm by an airport and am trying to figure out if I can find the flight info on the plane, like it's flight number and compare it to the arriving flights on the airport website. I can visually identify the planes but so far none of the numbers on plane tracking website match up to arriving flight info. About all I can compare is the type of plane such as if it's a 737.  Any way to get the actual flight number?

Lsat night I saw an American C-17 take off from air port or base; I couldn't tell which.  I last saw it over Hungary, southeast bound.  Going the Other way was another C-17 more or less westerly bound.
Over Merry Ol' England I saw a pair US Air Force KC-135 aircraft.

I Saw No Other Military Aircraft Flying Over Europe last night.
Just us Yanks.

I caught an airline called - really - W!ZZ.  But no other national military aircraft in flight anywhere.

I was looking at it today. It didn't show any fighters up in the US at all.  T-38s and Texans. Lots of tankers, transports, AWACS, but no fighters/bombers.  A Commando Solo, that was interesting.

Still interesting though.

I just looked and it shows many many more US Military planes up now than it did over the weekend.  E-6 and a bunch of E-3's up.  Bunch of T-38's too.  What are the ones at the bottom of the list with altitude/speed and sometimes call sign, but no other info?
