I had never heard Immortal until about 5 years ago. I went onto iTunes and saw that they had At The Heart of Winter available for download for Like $7. So, I downloaded it and spent all afternoon listening to it while I worked from home. After I was finished with work I took a nap. I dreamed that I was running around outside in the winter time with an unseen monster after me. I can still picture it in my mind. The air was cold, the trees were bare, the moon was full and I had this feeling of dread of something that I could not see.

Fucking AWESOME!

I just ordered the entire Agalloch catalog from Amazon a few days back. Woods of Ypres are next.

Yeah, Immortal has sick vocals. Some of the old Impaled Nazarene stuff is pretty crazy. Akercocke has pretty sick vocals on "Rape of the Bastard Nazarene." For a while, Dark Throne, Samael, Master's Hammer, Impaled Nazarene - ANYTHING BLACK DEATH - was all I listened to. To think, there were probably countless bands making just as dark and disturbing music that never made it. There is was some really good black metal back in the day.

Is that the one where they're running through the forest in cheap Halloween costumes and constantly pausing to menacingly look to and fro?

That's an awesome one!

I read an interview where Demonaz was all pissed off because some othe black metal band accused them of posing in fake snow for the cover of Battle in the North. Hysterical! They are a great band though. I love At the Heart of Winter and All Shall Fall.

Pretty good stuff.  I'll have to check out some others mentioned in this thread.

Deicide reminds me of 11th grade English class.  I miss the great black and death metal of the early 90's.

I'm really not into the Black Metal too much y'all. Death Metal, Thrash Metal (just saw Dark Roots of Thrash, fucking rocked) and Doom Metal.

Immortal is the shit when it comes to Black Metal though. Other bands may be bigger, more Satanic and not have the cheesy history, but that fucking album At The Heart of Winter, how many people can say that a metal album gave the nightmares? I was dreaming about an unseen terror in winter time after listening to it. That's Black Metal right there.

Yes, I been at The Bottle.
