Heavyweight Champ Jack Dempsy

I ran across a story in the SAS Self Defense Handbook about an American boxing legend.

Occasionally, you read that Muhammed Ali or some other modern era boxer is the greatest of all time.  Boxers from the "white era" are ignored and forgotten. I might have been one of those forgetful people.  Then I read about Jack Dempsy.

He and the boxing commissioner were riding in a taxi to Madison Square Garden. When it stopped at a light, two men wielding knives wrenched open the doors , leaned in and demanded money. Dempsy quickly responded with two punches, knocking out each would-be mugger. The former heavyweight champ was 70 years old at the time!

Nope, they really don't make 'em like they used to!

Just think tho....., if that'd been last week or even this century, the muggers would've had his butt in court and SUED him right down to his skivies in a NY minute!

Goes to show, champs (and he was a good'n) ain't all thats changed.......
