Its the other way around. People put their money out there based on what they think will happen. Like stock market options, the Intrade futures have historically had a good bit of predictive value –– especially on heavily traded issues that aren't easily manipulated on low volume. People aren't changing votes because of what the futures say. The futures say waht they say because people (including DC insiders) believe its going to pass. |

They have an annoying tendancy to be right I can't find anything about their track record showing how "right" they were and how far out those predictions were. I did find that they gave the Republicans an 85% chance of holding the Senate in '06 as late as 11:50pm on Election night. An hour later they obviously reduced it to align it with the reality of the actual election returns coming in. Mmkay.  |
