I have had great luck with a mix of 1/4 cup mustard and 3/4 cup water.

Any other good suggestions?

Spoon full of baking soda (tums)

Charcoal from the fire when camping. About a marble size chunk will do wonders. Also a field way to treat poisoning.

ETA - crystilized ginger works very well too. Plus the stuff is like fucking crack and I can't stop eating it! If you like ginger try it! I'm hopelessly addicted

Teaspoon of vinegar. Could not have enough acid in your stomach by eating a bunch of Tums and Rolaids.

I always have baking soda and Tums on hand.

I have used apple cider vinegar in a pinch.

I'm guessing this worked better than Prilosec, Prevacid, etc.?

I like Nexium best of them all. By a long shot for me. Have been taking it for years to help with colitis.

It's expensive without insurance and getting a script is a pain but if your insurance will cover it that's the best way to go IMO

I eat an apple every night before bed. I have been off acid reflux meds. for 1 yr now. I saw this in a farmers almanac last year or the year before.

Paleo type diets make that shit go away permanently.

It's not really but more of a pain than going to the kitchen and eating a spoon full of baking soda.

Thread is about home remidies so I would consider having to go to the doc a pain.

Makes sense.

I've done the baking soda but holy shit is there a lot of salt in a teaspoon.

Any ill side effects of drinking vinegar? I don't know for a fact, but word on the street is it will thin your blood.

It works for some folks. Gets me by 90% of the time.
Some days though, it doesn't cut it.

Apple cider vinegar helps a LOT when taken regularly, but I always end up forgetting.

Wal-Mart has Equate version of Prevacid24. Its like $17.00 for 42 pills. That's 1 1/2 months worth. No scrip required. I've had GERD for about 30 years and it works.

I take Coumadin and get tested for blood "thickness" monthly. Venegar has never had any effect on my INR tests.

Live-culture, unflavored yogurt. Works great for me. Got the idea off the Internet at a forum for home remedies.

You might also try buttermilk.

Omperezole. If I don't take one a day, I would probably die of esophageal cancer like my father within a few years.

Losing weight can be a good start.

At one point, I weighed about 215. Pretty hefty for my 6' frame. Id get heartburn at night, pretty much no matter what I ate.

Lost weight and it completely went away. I work 3rd shift now and eat "dinner" when I get home in the morning. I can eat a giant plate of pasta and go to sleep a few hours later and still not get heartburn from the sauce.

Many people that suffer from GERD or severe heartburn have a Hiatal hernia that they don't even know exists. I am one of those people. VA told me to live with it and don't lift as much. Thee is a surgical procedure but not very successful from what I hear.

OTC Omeprozole

If this is a recurring problem, see a GI specialist. It will turn into something worse.

Local grown honey can help a good deal for people with pollen allergies. A spoonful a day will help your body build a resistance to local pollens over time. And it's yummy. Raw honeycomb FTW!

Zantac and other "24 hour" antacid pills didn't work anywhere close to 24 hours. Until the doctor at the VA prescribed me Omeprozle and I ca even go well over 24 hours without any heart burn. The stuff works great.

One more thing: Make a list of what you regularly eat every day and compare it to some online lists on what creates heartburn. You may be surprised! I get it bad from eating iceburg lettuce! Switched to romaine and/or spinach, and I'm good again.
