It reminds me of a Mini-14.

Looks more like an M1 Carbine to me personally.  Hell it mentions it uses the M2 carbine gas system and that's just the automatic version of the M1.

AR-18 was one.  Same caliber as the AR15/M16.

The FAL was in trials against the M14 prototype, not the AR15.

Then again, I have always thought the M1/M2 carbine and the Mini looked quite similar.

Looks like a really fun rifle to shoot. Guts definitely look like the M1 Carbine.
