Pretty interesting. I am pretty sure I remember Andy talking about this a couple of weeks ago in the thread about the UK's new carriers being ordered. It seems they want to try to use these as their AEW aircraft. Too bad he is no longer allowed to post here.

NOT the ARFCOM mods.  Search for a post he did. He can't post for other reasons.

HIM did nothing wrong.

The British military has now forbidden posting re military matters.  All goes back to one of the Brits who was captured by the Iranians selling his story.

IIRC.

I really enjoyed Vito's posts and he was the only person I know who had access to current Jane's information.

Hey, why not?  Maybe we could replace our C2 Grehounds and E2Cs down the road with them.

I believe the below is what sunk Vito:

------------------------------------------------------------
MoD blog ban
------------------------------------------------------------

The MoD has issued new guidelines to personnel in the army, RAF, and
navy. They state soldiers can no longer blog, post on bulletin boards,
or release video, stills or images.

The government says the new restrictions have been put in place
following the controversy over the MoD allowing two navy personnel,
captured in Iran, to be paid for their stories.

But through these blogs and video posts (see the Army rumour service
board and Live Leak video site) we have learnt of inadequate equipment
in theatre, and poor accommodation, as well as unique testimony of
soldiers' lives in Afghanistan and Iraq.

So have these restrictions been put in place to quell criticism? Are
they legal? Are there good security considerations for the ban? And why,
when blogs and video posts have been used by soldiers since the invasion
of Iraq in 2003, are the MoD suddenly gagging their personnel?

That is hugely broad.

Wow.

Considering how the DOD treats blogs (general officers have roundtables with them for PA purposes, PAO's respond to bloggers, etc.) the Brit move seems...dumb.

Not to slam on them, but that is because they are subjects while we are citizens.

The Brits on the whole are great, their goverment on the other hand isn't.  Same could be said for here as well though.

To me using the Osprey would be perfectly logical extension of the AWACS concept, since the development of the plane has already been paid for, and in blood.

This is the UK's version of the US DoD.  I heard this report on the 11pm news a few night ago.  That is really sad, I really enjoyed his reading his comments.  I guess he can comment on other general stuff but not the .mil stuff. A sad day for ARFCOM..  I guess rules are rules when you are in the military no matter what country.

+1

They've long since canceled the CSA Common Support Aircraft as being two expensive.

V-22 for all its troubled devlopment is in production and we could share development with UK.  Provide the range/radar abilities meet or excede curret E-2 specs - I havent looked to compare.

Given that phibs will soon have F-35's on them, a det of AWAC V-22's aboard would be useful force multiplier.

A gunship tiltrotor would be useful as well.
