I keep seeing very positive stuff about these rifles.

A Walmart in my area has one in 243 for a pretty nice price (No, not as nice as the big sale price) and I've been considering it.

If you have one how is it?

Accurate?

How is the stock?

I'm curious as well, wouldn't mind a cheap 308 w/threaded barrel as long as it's accurate.

I don't own one but I've heard from several sources they are sub MOA capable with good ammo. Very impressive for a ~$300 rifle IMO.

I bought a RAR 308 during the ARFRARPOCOLYPSE2016. It shoots fairly accurate with the Rem CorLokt 150gr SP. After a couple of shots your groups will open up, so its not something that can be shot a lot and expect consistent POI. Overall, its a great deer season gun.

Bought my son a Scout version in .243 for his first deer rifle. I like it a lot. I've taken it a few times when he is in school.

The 6.5mm Creedmoor Predator version is supposed to be a 1000 yard capable rifle for under $500.

Been looking at the ruger American predator in 6.5 creed for a little while now, lots of glowing reviews online about them. Asked the local gun store owner about them and he said he loved his.

I'll probably grab one soon as a range toy/hunting rifle. For 400 bucks it seems like it is good bang for the buck. If I saw it cheaper than 350 I'd buy it.

Not entirely sure if the predator is a different line than the regular Americans'?

OP I have an American in 243. Love it. I replaced the stock with a laminated wood one from Boyds tho. MOA rifle all day for me using 95gr Winchester extreme point. Took my buck this year with it also, it only ran ~30 yards before dropping.

Only downside is with my wood stock, 6-18x scope, and a suppressor, it is quite heavy.

Picked up a .243 for the teen I take hunting to use. He shot a 3 shot group right around an inch at 100 after we got the scope where we wanted it. First load I tried for it; I didn't bother playing with it anymore as it's a deer rifle not a target gun.

That is what I was looking for, just a light, accurate rifle for whitetail.

They make for great hunting rifles.  You get a lot of accuracy for your money.  The stock is fine for a hunting rifle.

I got my daughters one in 7MM-08.  It's perfect for them to hunt with.

Hell, I like to carry it in the woods because it's so light.

I clipped a couple coils off the trigger spring and it is awesome. You can probably Google a write up on how to do it.

I like mine but I don't ever really shoot it.

I clipped 1.5 coils off my 7mm-08 trigger spring, still didn't like it.  Replaced it with a Bic pen spring after clipping a couple coils off of it, perfect 2 lb trigger now.

Other Ruger American rifle threads, one with pics of how I stiffened and added a little weight to my stock, plus a pic of a target with shots 15-20 on it.  Shots 21-23 took down two doe opening of gun season here.

So after reading lots of reviews and what you guys have said I decided that $380 for one in 243 was a good deal.

I stopped by today and asked if I could put one on layaway and he told me that layaway stopped on monday. No big deal, the only reason I didn't want to just buy it was that I just didn't feel like going through walmarts extremely slow gun purchase process tonight. He then told me that it wouldn't hurt so bad because the actual price was not what was on the rifle, it was only $200. I asked him if he had any more and he said that it did, one more in 243.

Now I don't NEED two of these rifles in the same caliber, but you can bet that at $200/ea I bought them both.

I bought another day before yesterday:  Ruger American Predator in .223.  It will become my new coyote rifle plus I'll probably use it for deer next year.

I too was skeptical.   Fo'd for $199 during the blowout sale. .243.  My confidence level is high.  Shoots 2" groups at 100 yards leaning on my truck hood.  Sure I could do sub 1inch on a solid more solid rest. I mounted a Walmart Nikon 4-14 during the blowout sale.

Trigger is really good IMO.  Bolt smooth.  Only downside is loading in the mag sometimes doesn't seem to stack right but maybe I'm not doing it right.  Stock fits me well.  Your GTG on that rifle.

Bought one in .308 for $200 at Wally World.  Haven't shot it yet so no input other than it looks like a fine rifle for the price paid.

Have one in 308.  Works great, an honest one MOA rifle with the right ammo.  Stock seems fine to me, don't get all the hate for it. The rifle was built to a price point, like most items these days, but Ruger did a very good job on it.

These babies are a great deal for a hunter looking for a good light accurate rifle. I hit a prarie dog at 435 of a bipod using my Predator 308. I have never even tried stuff like that before but I have the confidence to do it more often now. Also, took a cow elk at 475. DRT!

I bought the 6.5C predator at the end of rifle season. Shoots fantastic. Out the door with a Redfield scope and rings I was right at $700.

At $200 I would buy two as well.

I have a 308 compact with a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 scope on top. I have a tad over $450 in the set.

I took it out last weekend with a box of Norma Match 168gr. SMK and with using a rest I was getting sub moa groups.

1 moa with perfect 308 at 100 yards, off of a bipod+prone. That's the best measurement of accuracy (100 yards is pretty short range but,its all my range has) but for 300,bucks it's a great rifle

I bought a .243 and a 30-06 for $199 each when Wally World had them on sale. I gave the 30-06 to a friend and shoot the hell out of the .243. I liked it so well that I bought a 6.5 Creedmoor Predator version. It is unbelievable how accurate these guns are for the money.

Anyone have an idea what the finish is and if it is rust resistant? It looks like parkerizing or some sort of coating. Definitely not traditional bluing.

Any reports on the stainless model? Those seem to be hens teeth.

Have a lefty in 308.  With a 3-9 Nikon Prostaff I get 1 3/4" groups at 100 yards with 150 Federal Vital Shoks.  My one and only gripe about it is the stock is VERY noisy.  Bump it with anything and it rings like a big plastic bell!  I plan to do some experimentin on it this winter.

I noticed that about them. Maybe pull the recoil pad and fill with non-expanding great foam? Some of the stock filling solutions seem to add weight.
