Interesting story lastnight on a Spanish language news broadcast. The reporters were asking for reactions from several Hispanics about the possible racist fallout over Jose Padilla, the dirty bomber. A spokesman for LULAC said that the U.S. should be carefull not to infringe on the rights of hispanics, but rather that we should be seen and treated as individuals. It's been a long time since I heard anyone say that people should be treated as individuals rather than by thier race.

Are we seeing a return to conservatism?
