Very good movie. I think they were trying to secure a position of influence with Satan by letting him come to Earth or something. Haven't watched it in a while thought.

Great movie, even better soundtrack.
And yeah, it was the old "deal with the devil" scenario. Never seems to work out, even for rock stars. |

I love that movie but I don't know why. Maybe i just identify with the main character. He's as cold and uncaring as I am.

Focus on the subplot about the woman Satan fell in love with and let out of hell. Its strongly implied that she is the woman in the film, and by having sex with the main character she is upending the politics of Hell.
I've heard some takes where they state that by falling in love Satan lost his power to the girl who in turn transferred it to the protaganist. |

Most people hate this movie, I really liked it. Good mystery, it reminds me of some H.P. Lovecraft stories.
If you liked Ninth Gate you might like Polanski's latest movie, The Ghost Writer. Although it is verrrrrry slowly paced, it had a pretty good ending. |
