I had this rifle out cleaning it and figured you guys might like to see some closeups of it. The M98/29 Persian Mauser was manufactured by Brno Arms Factory in Czechoslovakia in the 30's under Persian contract (Persia is now Iran). It is in 8mm and was made in a day when true firearm craftsmen existed. At the time, labor was very cheap and no expense was spared to produce a firearm of exquisite quality. Notice how the front sight assembly is actually milled into the barrel. The M98/29 Persian Mauser is regarded by many Mauser collectors as the finest M98 Mauser ever made.

This example is likely unfired and certainly unissued. It has no importation markings. Also, all parts are matching, including the bayonet. All parts are serialized in Farsi. The rear sight is also graduated in Farsi.

I hope you enjoy these pictures. All comments are welcome.

That is a truly beautiful rifle.

You sure ought to shoot it.

Or......send it to me and I'll shoot it.

Where did you find it?

Thank you OP.

A couple of years ago I met an older gentleman at a gun show. We got to talking about Mausers and I told him I had been looking for years for a mint condition Persian Mauser. He told me that he had one that he might consider selling. It turns out that he lived pretty close to me and said he would give me a call soon and we could get together so I could look at it. For a while he kept putting me off, but he finally agreed to bring it by. When he got to my house, he brought in 5 guns. He had a mint Venezuelan FN49, a mint Venezuelan Mauser carbine, a really nice all original Remington 03A3, the Persian, and a beat up 1941 Johnson. We sat down for about 2 hours and haggled on the prices. I ended up buying the 03A3, FN49, Venezuelan Mauser and the Persian. The Johnson was in too rough of shape for my taste, but since they are so rare, I made him an offer on it, but he wouldn't take my offer on it. I think I offered him $1800 for the Johnson and he wouldn't go any lower than $2500.

I have been tempted to shoot the Persian but I just can't bring myself to do it. I'll make you a deal. If you ever come to Austin, you look me up and we'll head to the range. It would be my honor to let you be the first to fire it.

Beautiful rifle.

All the Persian Mausers I have seen appear to be unfired and in pristine condition.

But that one looks exceptionally nice.

I've got one just like it.  Kicks like a mule.  There's a nice Iranian gal I work with. We always invite her to our shootouts and offer to let her shoot it up in the air while she hollers but she won't do it.

Man, what a deal!  I might have to take you up on it.

As far as shooting a "unfired" rifle, I just can't resist.

I think that an "unfired" rifle is a shame.  It might as well be an Airsoft if it isn't going to be fired.  I think that a beautiful rifle like yours is a thing of beauty and ought to be enjoyed for what it is.....a rifle.

I have guns that have been fired thousands of times and you could not hardly tell that they aren't new.  If you take care of a rifle and clean it thourghly after each use, shooting it will do it no harm.

And that's what they were made for.  To be shot.

Congrats to you on a beautiful addition to your collection.

What a beauty! I really need to get one considering I'm persian by Birth. (American by the grace of God)

If you don't mind me asking, How much did that set you back and where did you get it from?

Samco Global Arms(they advertise in Shotgun news) still has them,I bought one myself about 5 years ago I paid $240 for the rifle and matching bayo looks about like this one.(not unfired, but in excellent condition) They are a nice shooting rifle, very accurate. They still have some in the factory box, with orginial test target from the factory, I think for around $5-600 These are well worth the money a excellent example of pre-war craftsmanship.

I have one of Samco's "Persian" Mausers, bought several years ago.

CZ makes nice guns.  It's one of my finest C&Rs.

Here's a FN made Venezuelan Mauser as a comparison. It's in 7mm Mauser and is likely unfired (except for test firing).

Oh, that's great.

Now I want one of those, too.

Please don't show me any more.  I'm gonna go broke.

(And I gotta get you out of this "unfired" rut. )

Looks beautiful.

Let's start working NOW on the legislation to allow these into the country as war trophies from whatever asskicking we're going to hand Iran in the near future.

Damn thread is causing drool damage to my keyboard.

Only Mauser I've got is a beat up Bosnian M48 I grabbed at Turners for like 90 bucks just because they had it.

I had a chance to buy one of those, however it was a choice between it and rent. In hindsite, I could have lived in my truck for a while.

That's a great rifle! Too bad you can't get a really big ass bayonet for it.
