California Governor Schwarzenegger Vetoed Anti-Gun Measure!

Monday, October 10, 2005

Thanks to the efforts of NRA members, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) vetoed anti-gun measure AB 996 this past Friday.  Assembly Bill 996, authored by Assemblymember Ridley-Thomas (D - Los Angeles), would have required all retailers to display and sell ammunition in a manner that is only accessible by an employee, not the purchaser.  Any violation of the measure would have resulted in a misdemeanor.

In addition, I have just signed SB 48 by
Senator Scott into law which will ensure those underage will no longer be purchasing
ammunition.

Other than complete stupidity, does anyone know the supposed rationale for this bill?

I mean, I have been in gun stores on several occasions and if I was in the mood to shoplift anything, I don't think I would pick a place where the guy behind the counter is wearing a 1911 on his hip.

Just chizzling away at gun rights in small increments.  And some peckerwood trying to justify his existence by coming up with useless legislation!

Actually SB 48 is not what it seems but still bad law.

California law already bans ammunition sales to those under age 18.

Hell, IIRC, federal law is that you have to be 18 for rifle ammo, 21 for pistol ammo.  In my state, I get carded when I buy Co2 cartridges or BB's for my airguns, let alone if I were to walk into a store and buy real ammo  So this is why I buy real ammo on the internet

He doesn't deserve applause.

Arnie didn't veto AB50 last year, which means Californians must register their 50 BMG rifles. Nor can they buy, transfer or import 50 BMG rifles in California.

He's stated openly that he opposes civilian ownership of assault weapons.

When he was sworn  into office he thanked his father in law and political mentor, Sargent Shriver, for teaching him about politics. Sargent Shriver is Teddy Kennedy's brother in law, which makes Maria Shriver, Arnie's wife, Teddy Kennedy's neice. Shriver was also George McGovern's running mate in the 1972 presidential election.

The only guy in the CA legislature really pushing for the bill.

I bet some of Arnie's CCW packing celeb friends have told him (quietly, back room) to vetoe bills hampering their ability to carry their handguns for protection.

for as sissy liberal as the majority of CA is (obviously not including the people on this board). You guys are lucky to have the governator. If not you would be hearing gay wedding bells and would need to know the secret handshake to get a box of bullets that has your home address stamped on each round. Perhaps that is as far as the pendulum will swing and it will start going back toward the middle
