Right now I am drinking a Caipirinha.

-2 shots of cachaca or pinga (Brazilian sugar cane brandy) I'm using Seleta one of the more
expensive brands at a whopping $4 for a fifth. You can pay anything from $1 to $100 for a bottle
depending on the brand.
-half of a lime, chopped or sliced to ease mashing.
-2 tbsp. of sugar
-plenty of ice

Mash the lime in a highball glass using a wood pestle, adding sugar and grinding it into the lime.
Slowly add cachaca to start mixing and disolving the sugar.
Top off the glass with ice then add the rest of the cachaca, adjusting as needed to completely fill
the glass.
Try drinking it with a straw if you want it to start off sweeter otherwise sip it and the finish will be
sweeter.
Watch out, many a gringo has been subdued by this funny limeade.

Are you brazilian or did you just live there?
I can't imagine anyone wanting to drink cachaca, i would imagine anything would taste better.  Granted I have never tried it, but it smells like dirty, rotten paint thinner (or at least what I imagine dirty rotten paint thinner to smell like).  But, hey, to each his own.

It is some good old Florida OJ for me tonight.

Grew up here, just visiting now.

You must have had some of the stuff that gets exported to the U.S. or Europe.

They choose the cheapest crap to export.  Some of the stuff they send to Europe that gets sold for
$20 a bottle, costs $.50  locally and is something only a beggar would drink.

Just like tequila Americans like to import the shittiest brands.  I can't imagine why anyone would
drink Jose Cuervo.

A good cachaca should have the aroma of cut sugar-cane or of a freshly cut lawn.  Alcohol wise it
can be anything from 40 to 106 proof.  106 proof is the legal content limit in Brazil.

Some of the brands you can find in the U.S. are-
Pitu - 100% crap
51 - O.K. to some, but also crap IMHO
Ypioca - O.K. but way over-priced, made for tourists.
Nega Fulo - Good but stay away from the stuff in the clay ceramic bottle, it picks up the taste.
Boazinha - Excellent.
Seleta - Excellent.

That would explain it.  I actually lived in Rio de Janeiro for a while.  The stuff I smelled was being consumed by a bum at a small bar.

About 1/2 way into my 4th coors light longneck, and just finished the most incredible filet mignon dinner I've ever cooked. (Actually, it's the first time I've cooked for "her")
Wifey is STILL working on her first Smirnoff, but scarfed down more steak than I did....

I think I'm getting laid tonight.

Blue Moon Belgian White

I try different beers occasionally, picking up random sixers of stuff I've never tried before. Knowing nothing of what a Belgian White was, this beer was surprising, to say the least.
