In my opinion, one of if not THE (and it would only be 2nd to the P-51) best looking aircraft of the war. Absolutely beautiful lines. If that thing was coming at you there was a really good chance that you were about to die. I don't get googoo over many aircraft but the FW-190 is certainly one of them.

amazing that the Spitfire and the FW-190 are back to life.
It doesn't surprise me if they can resurrect more warbirds... The ME262 was done and also the P51...but if they can do even more. amazing. |

No, the law has been in place since the end of WWII. maybe it's allowed for certain things. All I could find out was that regular German people can't display it since it considered associated with being part of the far right. for instance, you can't buy a video game in Germany with Nazi markings on the equipment. The game programers replace it with a black X. You're right that the missing Balkenkreuz is on only one body panel and the remaining part of the symbol is on the access panel and the upper metal. |

The "Balkenkreuz" isnt banned. The swastika is banned as politcal propaganda, for historical displays it's legal to use. The planes in the museums have swastikas on the tails. I had the oppourtunity to speak with two B-17 pilots a while back who were shot down over Europe in WW2. One of the pilots mentioned that he was buzzed by a 190 while he was on his way to the ground in his chute.
He said as the 190 buzzed him the pilot tipped up on his wingtip and saluted him on the way by, His comment about the 190 was "that plane was tiny". He also said he thought the 190 pilot was going to kill him in his chute, In his words. He said " That 190 pilot came right at me, and I thought this is it. When he tipped up on his wing tip and saluted me I waived back at him with a smile. He didn't shoot me". |

You may want to talk to the old folks in the village in the south of England where I grew up. the Luftwaffe straffed everything that moved my father had a near miss when he was playing in his yard. So their code of honor included women children and livestock. |

The FW190 will always be my favorite aircraft.
When I was 5 (almost 40 years ago) my dad let me pick out my first model from Walmart for us to build together. I chose a FW190. I have liked them ever since. I actually tracked down exactly what model that was and found an unopened one on ebay recently. Sorry for the reminiscing. Anywho, great pictures. Thanks for sharing. |
