I really don't consider them to be punk, their sound is way too polished and professional to be punk.

All they really needed was a lead guitar player like Eddie VH to make them sound really good.

I saw the Clash in the Gym at Hofstra university . People were throwing their leather jackets onto the stage.

The Clash are probably my favorite group of communist twats ever.

Back when I was in middle and high school, The Clash was what all the "alternative" girls listened to. The punk rockers were into other stuff, mostly CA punk.

Boys, especially when they're immature, try to listen to the worst god-awful embarrassingly bad-on-purpose shit to distance themselves from what's good - like pussy, and good bands.

Love the Clash! Joe Strummer was a great lyricist....

Guns of Brixton

When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

When the law break in
How you gonna go?
Shot down on the pavement
Or waiting in death row

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, Guns of Brixton

The money feels good
And your life you like it well
But surely your time will come
As in heaven, as in hell

You see, he feels like Ivan
BORN under the Brixton sun
His game is called survivin'
At the end of the harder they come

You know it means no mercy
They caught him with a gun
No need for the Black Maria
Goodbye to the Brixton sun

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh-the guns of Brixton

When they kick out your front door
How you gonna come?
With your hands on your head
Or on the trigger of your gun

You can crush us
You can bruise us
And even shoot us
But oh- the guns of Brixton

Shot down on the pavement
Waiting in death row
His game was survivin'
As in heaven as in hell

You can crush us
You can bruise us
But you'll have to answer to
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton
Oh, the guns of Brixton

Well, the first part is somewhat true (but not entirely). The rest just sounds like weapons grade butthurt.

Must have nicked a nerve.

Santana, The Clash and the Who. Outdoors at JFK in Philly 9/82. I was told it was the best concert I ever saw. Still not sure.

Saw the Who in St. Paul on 10-2-82. No Clash though, the warmup band was T-Bone Burrnett (sp?).

He looks as if his conflict was a polite philosophical disagreement with certain minor aspects of the law.

Aug 27, 1982. Penn Ice Rink, Philadelphia.

The Clash were a band you really wanted to see live.

Not written by Strummer, written (and sung) by Paul Simonen, the bassist.

Great song nonetheless.
