Ill always be a ak guy.... What can I say I like my cheaply made Commie weapons But I'm really investigating different rifles to invest in down the road. I find it funny my mother is a afrikan and she can't get enough of the AK47 but she loves the UZI as well. I really wanna get into other rifles but with the fact most rifles are CAI monkey guns I just dont know what to look for. What say the community?

A1 clone for price of ammo alone. Build it yourself cheaply.

I wouldn't worry about having to kill most anything with an M16.

Try more expensive commie weapons.

If you already have an AR15 I'd get the FAL.

FAL is always the answer.

OBTW the FAL in your pictures is really a SLR.

The FAL is the finest, most honed weapon of the three.

Excluding people that have been shot by one, there are probably 10 people in this world that HATE the FAL.  And they're just in the head.

There should be a sticky thread titled, "Don't bother asking, the FAL always wins."

The L1A1 pictured SLR, best of the free world. Better than anything the un-free world ever could come up with too.

Hard call between the FAL and the CETME.

If your limiting your choices of AR to teh M16A1 clone, then I'd take the L1A1 (FAL).  Not that there's anything wrong with teh A1 clone, I just likes me some FAL, and I prefer the M4 config of the AR.

If its a CAI gun, buy a FAL. If you broaden your choices, Still a FAL!

If you already have an AR, roll with the FAL.

SO True, especially the CETME's & G-3's they "built" by shortcutting the bolt.

Instead of fitting oversize rollers to compensate for normal wear on those old guns (Right way - takes 10 only or so minutes) , the monkeys at Century just GROUND metal off the back of the bolts to try and bring the gun into "acceptable" head space.  Exactly the WRONG way to do it (Saved them 8 minutes or so), but then what else would anyone expect from Century.

If you get a CETME or G-3 from Century, strip it down, take the bolt off the bolt carrier, and look at the back of the bolt for those grind marks.

Honestly, I'd stear clear of anything Century.

Some of The Century FALS were a mis-mash between Imperial and Metric if I remember right.

Still if I had to choose, FAL over CETME between the two.

I'm very partial to the M16A1.

An A1 clone's also my only real rifle, right now

If you can find a good Cetme thats the winner. But the fact is you can walk into a store and walk out with a FAL and have a very high chance of having a good gun. Not so much with a Cetme.

I have all three. The Cetme is more accurate than the FAL, but it is heavy and clumsy by comparison. Plus, I am left handed, so I shudder at the thought of having to clear a malfunctio9n with the Cetme.

I have Modern ARs, so the A1 does not get out much.

A friend has one of those abortions.  No, it doesn't work.

IIRC Century also put out a batch of CETMEs with canted barrels and front sights.

Bottom line:
For a FAL: Pre ban Belgian ($$$$) Imbel or DSA = GTG
For a CETME, i'd buy a later JLD made PTR 91.  (~5 years old)
