Pretty much goes to show that Christianity is a very masculine religion, unlike the common stereotype. God has no problem with justified arse kicking.

I always liked the one where the Israelites convinced the bad guys of the day to circumcise themselves and become Jewish, and then while all of the baddies were laying back, resting from the snip, the Israelis went in and killed all of them.

I think they got in trouble for that one though. My memory is a little rusty.

Ahhh, the simpleminded interpretations of an unbeliever...

You do know that Moses got sent into exile for that don't you? After that, God killed the rest.

No, I didnt know Moses got sent into exile for this incident. I do know that god says to not kill, then does it himself.

you're a fool if you think Origin of Species is as or more influential on our culture (and therefore required reading) than the Bible. Darwin has his place, but the two aren't even in the same league influence-wise.

Yes, if you're going to debate any topic about it with any modicum of credibility or shred of intelligence.

Don't be a dumbass. We weren't discussing The Origin Of Species.

Why are you comparing that to a religious work anyway?

God does not say "Do not kill". If you don't want to believe what God says, fine. I always find it funny when people like you try to tell me what God said, as if you were an expert or something.

Sigh.....The more I learn about the bible the more contradictory I see it is. Take this thread for example. You cant kill......but god can. God knows everything......except that the first civilization he created was screwed up and full of non-belivers and he had to redo it (the flood).

Only for people who want to be conversant with Western literature, culture, architecture, language, politics, laws, philosophy, or history.

Other than that, no, not really.

That's because Christians get to pick and choose parts of the bible for their personal agenda

The correct translation is "Thou shalt not murder" which is certainly different than just general killing (like in self-defense)

eta: crap, too slow, 1911greg addressed it already

The modern English translation of the Ten Commandments is not directly from God.

God was reiterating a prohibition against murder. Was murder ok before God handed down the Ten Commandments? No. It was always forbidden.

Evolution is real wether god created its process or not. Its scientific observation. Has NOTHING to do with religion.
