The four best known political generals of our day are Clark, McPeak, Shelikashveli (sp), and Dodgen.
The first three have come out in favor of Kerry. If Dodgen hasn't come out yet, expect it soon.
Clark and McPeak were despised by their respective branches. They were Clinton political appointees with high political aspirations. I'll let a wiser head discuss Shali. Dodgen falls into a special group -- the second tier general officers who did not have what it took to rise to the top.
Political generals gravitate toward the Dems. Dems will subjugate sound military thinking to the appointment of sycophant Dem generals. The GOP doesn't have this tendency. The GOP, long the defenders of the military, put good generalship ahead of political bedmates.
Dodgen is a perfect example. Not being good enough to hit the top, he is dependant on his support of Kerry to make something of himself. On the flip side, T. Franks doesn't need W. Franks knows he can be whatever he choses to be based on his own abilities.
Much of my information comes from a very close friend of nearly 30 years who served in the USA all over the globe and in the Pentagon.
Basically, the Dems attract the opportunistic scum.
Yep. That applies to Generals, Admirals, Politicians, AND Voters......
