I hear ya!!! Had two vert in my neck fused last Sept. Wife had just left me (now divorced) and had decided to re-up, then one week later, BAM, disc blew. SUX!!!!!!!

My Mother (71) had those done in the '80s. She had to have them removed in the late '90s.
She was part of a class action suit and actually got some cash from the manufacturer.

The fussion failed and the docs solution was to add rods on the sides of the BAC cages for support and then take them out 2 years later.

I said no thanks...

That just happens or you can go too 'highspeed' and have it happen too.
But as you age the discs degenerate. So they are easier to injure. Some of our discs degenerate to the point of herniations no matter what we do.....

I know a guy that had to have a 1.5 foot steel rod attached to his spine. Well He doesn't bendover to good. But he has a really strong back
