But was there a "read receipt"?

Also, I wonder what happened when he saw that he sent it to the wrong person.

Well I guess he is out of the running for father of the year.

Just "venting" involves talking (or even thinking) about killing your wife and 4 year old?

I can't wait for him to explain to his cellmate DeLondong that he fucked himself.

If you are texting your "Hitman", you are stupid to begin with!

Lytle wrote to someone named Shayne that he wanted to take up an earlier offer to kill his wife. Lytle offered to split his wife's insurance payout, which he said was worth $1 million, the Post said.

Lytle allegedly wrote that the hit man could also kill his 4-year-old daughter, whose insurance payout was worth $500,000.

So far, police have not found an insurance policy on anyone in Lytle's family, according to the Post. Investigators still have to search his cell phone.

Maybe it is just me but cheating a hitman out of payment doesn't sound like a wise move.

The manner in which this particular perp was caught doesn't seem to indicate that he was the brightest bulb in the box.

What kind of retard is setting up a hit with his own cell phone via text message that explicitly states that you want to hire someone to kill your family? For a guy who wants to plan a murder, he sure didn't put much thought into it.

Kinda lends a bit of credence to his unorthodox "venting" defense.  "You're honor, do you REALLY believe that my client would be dumb enough to send this text if he was actually serious about it?"

What could possibly go wrong?

With the entire case is based on that one text? Thin.

Esp if it turns out there are no insurance policies, no other Shaynes on his phone or any other corroborating evidence to suggest he was doing anything other than what he claimed.

Pretty messed up, but this may be all a misunderstanding, though with a guy who vents some pretty sick shit.

You can definitely work that into a nice case though.

That would be great if, once he knew he sent it to the wrong person, he sent another text that said, "JK."

The entire case wouldn't be based on that one text. The text is one piece of substantial evidence that gives authorities probable cause to investigate further.

Random story time:

What if they interview his wife and daughter, they say the last 2 years he has been increasingly hostile and maybe has gotten a little physical with them. Turns out one of his tweaker buddies is named Shane and has a violent record. What if he was let go of his job with the former employer for concerns and anger management issues? See how a case starts building that a reasonable person might believe that he did, in fact, want to kill his family when he sent the texts?

It's entirely possible he was only mad the one time and he didn't intend to carry out the plan. But there's enough evidence to justifiably look into and determine it.

To bad he didn't text him to kill himself. I can't understand why you would pay someone to kill your family...just leave.

If there is a policy...

Otherwise, just a sick POS.

So, his defense is that while he does tend to keep lists of people he wants to kill on his phone, hey, who doesn't do that?  And, oh yes, he has an imaginary friend with whom he's negotiating a life insurance payout?

Okaaaayyyyy.

As OP has said in the past ... this is why lawyers have nice things.

What's not to understand? If you leave, you lose half your shit + child support. I'm not condoning his action, just replying to your statement.
