Silver nitrate can also beused to make photographic paper or film. He may want to pour it on t-shirts and make prints on them. Just a possible use.

I know about the ammonium nitrate use but I've never heard of silver nitrate being used for anything other than photographic purposes. Would silver nitrate work in this sense ? Stepped-init

I don't know of a silver nitrate gunpowder mix so I assume that he is wanting to rip some one off for either 75 pounds of gunpowder or 75 pounds of silver nitrate.

Silver nitrate when mixed with ammonia compounds can form azides which are powerful explosives.

What I think is that it either is some sort of ATF entrapment thing, or it really is a nutcase who's trying to build a very noisy firecracker for the 4th of July. You know, one that will take down a building or two. Face it, after Oak City, all the fertilizer suppliers are tipping off the feds about large purechases by strangers, so where else to go but the internet. Of course the ATF could also be thinking this way, too.

I Wanna is a trading post type classified that is sold in North Carolina, I'm guessing that whoever posted the ad just figured everyone would know what the area code was. Just a guess. Jake edited to add: A little trial and error and you'll find that this classified is from the upstate South Carolina edition for Geenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and the surrounding area... 864 is the are code, but of everyone already new that from looking at the other ads, right?

Following the OKC bombing, didn't the Feds require additives to nearly all commercially available ammonia nitrate to inhibit its being used in a destructive device? I am pretty sure I remember that being passed. I know the farmers were bitching around my old hometown in hicksville Ohio about not being able to use it to blast stumps anymore.
