There are a bunch of us who are battling various cancers (and other ailments), myself included.

Locking the thread of some people trying to help out someone in need is a new low.

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1549955_Hey_Mods____Got_an_idea___For_Fatalwishes_.html&page=1

This place is jumping the shark, and Site Staff is acting like congress.

To the Avilas: you need term limits on staff and mods.

I have no doubt this will be locked. The clique running things has (to use their latest favorite term) "zero tolerance" for anyone questioning the status quo.

Good run while it lasted.

Good luck to all.

Over and out.

Its rather unfortunate that random assholes ruin things for the folks who would do nothing but good in this world for the folks who genuinely need it. Its the assholes who compel governing bodies to shut good samaritans down.

Sometimes the rules suck, even when you understand why they were made.

I think admin can vett the few legitimate causes we have around here and make exceptions to the rules.

This. Calm down. Think a minute. That rule was originally put there for a reason.

BTW Again, Nobody is calling anyone here a scammer.

Do what you're supposed to do and IM Stryker and got the OK to do it right.

Didn't it all get worked out? I went to the page set up and made a meager donation. Its understandable that the mods got to be cautious with this type of thing. I know a lot of people today have been affected by fatalwishes thread me being one of them.

By Va-gunnut:All requests for fundraisers are being denied, until next year at least.

Maybe Va is mistaken, but that right there was disheartening.

Fuck you, Merrell.. you're not going anywhere.

The donation site has been set up and is alive and healthy. Dude has nearly $5k at the moment.

Striker, take note. We will make it happen with or without your blessing.

You would do well to recognize.

I think that this wasn't a good hill to die on. This is a large community with a lot of management overhead (not money, just effort) and I'm sure they have to be very careful with such things. It's nothing to get personal over. If Arfcomers want to help the guy there are plenty of ways to IM or network to get it done without having an official fundraising thread.

ETA: See the post above mine....

Ayup. Things are being taken care of. The donation site is flourishing. 24/365 is covering his kid's Christmas List. No need to fall on this sword.

The rules are in place for a very good reason.

Man 100 people have put together so far in one day close to 5grand. I would say this place has some pretty positive and honest folks that followed through with what they posted. YMMV

I still use the site, albeit way less frequently, but I stopped being a supporting member and installed an ad blocker to deny that revenue source as well based on some of the moderator and staff appointments the last few years. Some of them are fair and unbiased in their approach. Others were literally a shock to see in that position.

I think the term limits are a great idea.

There have been many times that I have shook my head in wonder at threads. Been a couple times I thought about just logging off and walking away...

Then something like this happens and the true spirit of ARF shines thru. The love, support, and caring for a member in need. Makes things a bit dusty in here...

Very sorry to hear about your situation Merrell.

Please rethink your decision to leave - we enjoy having you here and will miss you if you are gone.

As another reply noted, I understand how emotions run high with this kind of stuff.

Sometimes it's best to step back from the situation and think on it awhile before deciding.

Best of luck to you whatever you decide.

We actually had a mod in Jeffs hospital room and we watched as Jeff was nearly in convulsions from the pain, I had to walk down the hall myself to tell the nurse he was at a pain level of 8 and what pain meds he requested. We've proven the validity of this situation and MoJo (mod) after explaining the liability/scam issues said he would talk to the powers that be about making an exception.

That said, we are making progress, Jeff will not fight alone.
Link Posted: 10/28/2013 5:50:41 PM EST
Yeah, OP I don't really think it's a big deal. We don't need mods to give us the permission to send money to someone. No reason to leave the site; there are plenty of good folks here.

Thank you for sharing this here. It is an uplifting and wonderful relief to hear from any of the crew that could visit with Jeff. It was the one thing he requested of the membership, and I think it's one of the most simple treasures anyone could provide him with.

I'm leaking awesome from my eyes thanks to this incredible gesture on your part.

Somewhat, yes.

They don't want to be known as scam central.

They also don't want to expose themselves to liability.

Fundraisers aren't the purpose of this website anyways, no matter how good the cause.
