What are some pros and cons of living in the Arlington, TX area?
Link Posted: 6/22/2017 3:37:40 PM EST
It's in between Dallas and Ft. Worth. There's a football stadium, a baseball stadium, a convention center, an amusement park, and a water park, along with other attractions.

1) lots to do
2) Whether you're doing it or not, you'll be stuck in traffic... and likely paying for it
Link Posted: 6/22/2017 3:38:12 PM EST
I wouldn't. Right in the middle of D/FW that is a mixed bag of neighborhoods. You are at least 30 minutes from escaping the metro monster.

Only pro is of you like pro sports, you are near the stadiums for the Cowboys and Rangers.
Link Posted: 6/22/2017 3:39:28 PM EST
It really depends on which part, and where you'll be working.
Link Posted: 6/22/2017 3:42:30 PM EST
You gotta be really careful about exactly where you want to live.

Also: Hope you like traffic.

Once you accept that you aren't IN traffic, but rather ARE traffic, it isn't so bad.

Pro: You can participate in the draw Mohammed contest, aka hunting over bait.
Con: Traffic

Some parts of Arlington are better than other parts of Arlington.

I'd much prefer being a few miles south like Rendon or Crowley. They're more on the outskirts of the metroplex, but still close enough for most things.

Texas is full. You can only live here if you can get two families of four libs to leave.

working in Arlington?
live in Mansfield.

if you like a little property, go south to Midlothian.
Link Posted: 6/22/2017 3:51:56 PM EST
There are some nice older neighborhoods but it is mostly " da 'hood". Has anyone mentioned that the traffic sucks? Because the traffic sucks.

Don't worry, the chances of me living there are quite slim, but I want to get some inside info just in case.

This.  There is some gangy thuggishness that goes on.  It does have a few nice neighborhoods, but the area is sinking.

Very diverse, multiple diverseness.

There are many better options not to far away.

it used to be pretty awesome except for the traffic
now days not so much, and you still have the traffic
Link Posted: 6/22/2017 3:58:49 PM EST
I grew up in Arlington, not a bad town. Some parts with good neighborhoods, some with bad.

In the middle of everything DFW, so lots of stuff around to do.

I would never live there.

But I live in the city limits of Dallas
Link Posted: 6/22/2017 4:02:49 PM EST
I have lived in Arlington almost my whole life. I like it, but don't live in the shitty part. My area (near Lake Arlington) has low crime and is pretty quiet.

Not sure what traffic yall are talking about, its not THAT bad. I guess if you are trying to get to Dallas in rush hour it sucks but just getting around Arlington isn't that bad unless you are on Cooper or Collins during busy times. (also Division St. can suck if a cowboy / ranger game is letting out.)

this.

parts of arlington are nice. arlington is also where--from a distance of about 30' away--i watched a guy get shot in a gang dispute, and could do absolutely nothing about it because i had decided not to carry that night.

One thing to consider is I would not be bringing my family down. I'd be renting a small house or apartment and living alone. Being from the Detroit area, I wouldn't be opposed to living in a declining neighborhood, just as long as it isn't a 3rd-world war zone.

Choose wisely if going with rental. No 3rd world war zones...per se....but you could easily end up in a low class neighborhood.

North Arlington is fine.

The plus side of Arlington is that you are smack dab in the middle of everything. FT Worth or Dallas is a relatively short drive.

ETA....Bedford, Hurst and Euless would also be areas to consider.

My brother moved to Grand Prarie. He works in Arlington.
Link Posted: 6/22/2017 4:55:35 PM EST
If I lived there I would have Rangers season tickets. And pop Xanax like M&Ms.

Do you like traffic? Assholes? Red lights? Road construction?
Yes?
Then Arlington has a lot to offer.

Lol, true Dallasite right here. Also, make sure to get plenty of rhinestones on your belt buckle, a fringed leather jacket, and custom ostrich quill boots. That'll make you a real Dallas, TX cowboy!

This. I have to venture into the city a couple of times a week at off peak hours and that's more than enough for me. No way in hell I'd live there unless the check was insane. I'm just not a big city guy.

Cruising Cooper St Friday and Sat night use to be the shit... not quite what it was in the 90's anymore.

Edit: On Mexican food, just a 30 min drive to JoeT's .. which isn't as good as it was in the 70's, 80's or even the 90's but it is still decent.
Link Posted: 6/22/2017 5:33:08 PM EST
I must have very low standards. I dont think Arlington is that bad. No worse than any other city in the area. You could find a cheaper place if you looked south a few minutes. Probably quieter also.

Moved to SW Arlington as a kid in '81. Katrina turned it south faster than the normal rate would have.

HEB are areas to consider, but I suggest they are being taken over too.  There are still several nice areas to live in them, but not sure how nice they will be in 10 years.  The walls sorta started closing in, in the last 8 years.

If you are looking long term, there are nicer cities.  If you are looking for land to spread out a little bit, the southern neighbors are a better option.

I would not plan a long term stay in DFW inner city.  I would look on the outskirts.  I would not live in Arlington, just my opinion.

I will be moving from my current location in the next 5 years.  When my son graduates high school it may happen, thats less than 5.

i was near there the other day. traffic made me wanna eat my gun. Victory park works fine for me

If you're going to rent in Arlington, be prepared to go well north of $1K to avoid the dregs.

I was born and raised in Houston. So ate at the original restaurants all the time growing up. Moved to Missouri a few years ago. That Arlington location is the first place we stop when back in Texas, that and Whataburger.
