I've had the Droid 1 since my last upgrade, when the phone had first come out. It's just come to my attention that the Droid 3 was released, and I had no idea it was even being developed.

I'm due for an upgrade in a few months, but before I commit, I have some questions.

1.) Is it like the Droid 2, where aside from aesthetic differences and a slightly different keyboard, it was pretty much the same phone as the Droid 1?

2.) Does it still use a heat-sensitive touch screen? That's my one gripe about my phone, when it rains or gets humid, or too cold, or whatever, the screen input goes on the fritz and it becomes a pain in the ass to use the phone, especially when using the on screen keyboard.

3.) Has the camera been upgraded? Did they make it a dual-sided camera like the iPhone 4?

4.) What other significant differences are there between the Droid 1/Droid 2, and the Droid 3?

I upgraded from the droid 1 to the 3 for one reason: 5 row keyboard - typing in numbers is so easy now.

touch is the same. camera is upgraded, and dual sided. 2 core cpu means no lag in angry birds.

the other upgrade is it's a worldphone - so it has gsm hardware as well as cdma.

My wife had the original Droid and I had the Droid 2 now we both have the Droid 3.  Huge improvement from the Droid 2.  Comes with gingerbread from the start so it's a little different in that aspect.  Very smooth with the dual cores, video and apps load alot quicker and the overall feel is snappier.  It does have front/rear facing cameras and 1080p video capture which is amazing.  No 4g with the Droid 3.

That's the way Motorola does business, they don't make radical changes to wildly popular devices.  The Droid 2 had a more powerful processor, more memory and a much improved keyboard.  The Droid 3 carries the tradition on in much the same way, a more powerful processor (dual core this time) and a better keyboard with a dedicated number row and a larger screen to match the larger keyboard.  It looks like an excellent device, I'd have one now if it had an LTE radio in it.  Since it doesn't, I'll stick with my Droid 2.

Sitting w/ an upgrade waiting for the Bionic, SFII, or the new HTC on the way.  I never use the physical keyboard on my OG Droid.

if you don't bang the shit out of the keyboard, there's no reason to pay the weight and space penalty having on brings. The bionic looks tight, but I must have a keyboard.

So you never ran your D2 with a GB rom such as CM7 or Apex?  If you've still got it around you should try it, you'd be shocked.  CM7 turns the D2 into a beast.  Apex turns it into a speed demon with an amazing battery life.

The Bionic would have been a ground breaking device 3 or 4 months ago.  Now it's just another dual core phone with a sub par screen.  Assuming it still comes with the Pentile screen it's been shown with.  The only thing that makes it special is it will be, assuming it's not delayed again, the first dual core LTE phone in VZ's lineup.  But that's not enough to get me to sign a 2 year contract on a phone with a sub par screen.

I don't upgrade until early next year. I'm in no rush, we'll see what new technology comes out. That said, I want a Droid 4 with LTE Advanced... I'm sure they're working on one now. Droid 3 looks sweet but if I'm going to get locked in for 2 years I'm going to need the tech for the upgraded towers.

So one knock on the Droid 3 - it comes with a bunch of carrier-mandated shitware pre-loaded that you can't uninstall.

Very fucking annoying.

If you're using the google sync process, it's pretty nice - all your wifi settings show up, all your apps, everything. Cool beans.

I installed Lookout and used the free premium trial to move the stuff Google didn't.
