There's a local auction nearby and they have a Sistema 1911 up for sale. I seem to remember these are good pistols, what's a good price?

I bought one for next to nothing a few years ago...I think about $175?

I fixed it up, duracoated it and gave it to my dad for Christmas

IIRC Colt set up the tooling for them, and all regular 1911 parts seem to fit...they are milspec 1911s.

I've owned a bunch of 1911 and 1911-style guns, and the Sistema is one of my favorites.

If it's in nice condition and nice finish, I'd say $400-$450 is probably a decent price. I don't think I'd pay much more than that for a Sistema.

If it looks rough or worn, I wouldn't pay more than $300-350. As Old_Painless has shown, refinishing is not too hard.

ETA: But, the "muzzle brake" part is confusing, and has to be an aftermarket part. Most likely it is one of those bushing muzzle brakes, but I guess it COULD be a new barrel-brake combo. So it may mean that you'll want to buy a new bushing (but that shouldn't be expensive at all).

What would be good price or a killer price?

Last time I went to this auction there was only five people bidding on guns.

Some go for real decent prices like NIB SA XD 40 $290.

BTW, that hammer bite is easy to fix.

I don't think those are original grips.

... and I don't see any muzzle brake - which would be a good thing, I guess.

Another thing that occured to me is that the whole "Aeronautica" thing (that you mentioned in your original post) may indicate some relatively rare variant - but I really don't know. It might be something that a Sistema collector might care about

The little bulge on the ejector rod is the clue. It is pre-Model 10, but I can't remember the model number.

I don't see a muzzle brake either, but I am willing to bet they have one of those muzzle brake bushings included with the gun. They don't do anything, but some people like them for some reason.

I don't quite get the hammer bite thing. I have 3 1911s and none have ever bitten my hand.

Most modern versions of 1911 pistols don't bite. They are manufactured with a shorter hammer spur.

But older models had a longer hammer spur and many will bite you. If they do, then shorten them as I showed.

Took a google and it looks like maybe a K200 in .38 S&W.

I love mine; not the greatest shooter in my arsenal, but it is a Pseudo-Colt, so...

Picked it up for $200 and added an original Colt WW2 slide and USGI parts, including a narrow hammer, checkered trigger, new springs, recoil spring plug and slide stop; then parkerized the whole thing to match.

Yay! I get to post pictures of my Sistema!

How she looked the day I brought her home. I was so happy with how well it shot that first day that I returned to the same store the next day planning to buy the 3 remaining Sistemas they had when I picked this one. Sadly, someone beat me to them.

How she looks after bobbing the hammer, updating the springs, parkerizing the whole thing, and adding a set of black rubber grips.

Yeah, that ended up being $249.97 well spent.
