Why do people insist on writing "teh" instead of the? Is it really that hard to write it right. Seriously, where the hell did it come from and why is it so popular? Just like pron, just say porn! Is it to be cool and to stand out or something, i just dont get i guess. Please stop it, its just annoying and stupid.

Happens to me all the time as a typo. Teh problem is that spelling it that way has also become a joke. Since that happened, I find my self having teh typo problem more often.

+1 Same with "nad" for "and" Oh well.Oh, Pron (and it's variations, pr0n, pr[]n, etc.) is spelt that way because (so I've read) it bypasses filters that look for the word porn. PS maybe the Internet isn't ... for you ... if you have a problem with those spellings... |

12 year old A (subsequently referred to as "Timmy") got pissed off playing counterstrike when he kept getting "pwnt" by 12 year old B (subsequently referred to as "Billy"). Timmy went off, typing up a storm calling Billy a "haxor" in an attempt to discredit Billy and the "pwntage" that was being wrought upon Timmy. In his rage, he accidentally typed "teh" instead of "the".
The crowd of other 12 year olds on the server, not realizing that it was actually a typo, were awestruck by the majesty of Timmy's "733+" smack talking "skillz". Thinking that Timmy had actually meant to spell "the" as "teh", they immediately adopted the new spelling for "teh" in a misguided attempt to be as "kewl" as Timmy.

"teh" started out as a simply typo - for most people, the left hand types faster than the right. Don't know why, but it does. Same thing with "porn" vs. "pron". Obviously has now achieved status beyond the typo.
As for pwned, pwn3d, etc. many of the earlier crackers would deface websites replacing content with a big blinking "owned" or whatnot - so common that many folks would periodically do a string searched for "owned" as a rudimentary IDS to see if they got compromised. Thus, the intentional mispellings of that. |
