What would have happened if he tried to fire the gun? Ka-Boom? Certainly wouldn't cycle, would it?

Yeah, it's in Florida.

It might work, sometimes.

Poor velocity and really crappy accuracy. If.... if it fired.

Probably would not have fired.

Pistols marked 9mm Kurz take .380 ammo. Probably over 1/2 cops don't know that.

You can shoot 9mm through a 40.  I have done it on accident before.

It would work as the case would be held in place by the extractor. It might not cycle properly but it would likely go BOOM at least once.

It will work, probably.

But, it doesn't take rocked appliances to know a little something about headspace.

A friend of mine was at a range once with 2 handguns in 1 lane, one was 380 one was 9mm.

He loaded a single round of 380 into the top of the 9mm mag, he was complaining about how hard he had to push it to get it to seat in the mag.

He kept trying but it wouldnt go into battery, after a minute he realized his mistake.  I believe it was a glock 9mm, don't remember what model though.

In a Glock 17, the .380 fired and you could see the round pop out of the barrel and go about 10 feet until it fell into the dirt.

.380 is a low pressure round.  The case might be indeed strong enough to contain the pressure.

That's like how pistol rounds shoot in dreams, if you can get the trigger to work.

Yes it will work, i have fired probably 1 or 2 mags worth of .380 out of my glock 26.

Accuracy is fine, cases bulge pretty good and you have to hand cycle it, otherwise it works just fine.

Never chrono'ed it for velocity but they make holes in paper.

In other news, i could give a fuck about a glock

Will it even chamber? .380 cases are larger at the base, and use a different shell holder than 9mm.

It's possible the gun is a 9mm Kurz, Short, .380, whatever... and the cop just saw the "9mm" written on the side.

From time to time while reloading 9mm, I've had .380 cases that slip through all inspections and get loaded.  I've knowingly fired several of them after noticing them while loading mags at the range.  So, they were .380 cases loaded with 9mm charges and shot from a 9mm gun.  Cycled, ejected, nothing spectacular.

.380 cases loaded to .380 specs may not work though.

Yeah, it's in Florida.

We need laws that don't allow 17 year old kids to buy handguns.

But he may have got it from Travon, they look related.

This. I've seen it numerous times with 9mm in a .40. The brass expands to the size of the chamber and the bullet leaves the barrel. Not as much zip on it, but it'd work once.

If the extractor had held it in, it may have fired. Could have gone down the pipe without incident, or it could kaboom. Don't know, don't want to find out.

Seriously?

That seems like a terrible idea... the one time I did it on accident in a G17, the case popped, and the round barely made it out of the barrel.

One time at the range my buddy set his box of open .380 right beside my 9mm. I loaded an entire mag and made it through 13 shots before I had any type of failure.

The only thing that happened was the slide didn't fully return to battery. This was in a P226.
