Does team member status reflect much here? I was a team member for 2 years but I let it lapse this go-round. Do people look and say, "wow, 3000+ posts and not a team member? What a loser..."

Am I the next Imbroglio?

I read what is written. I have seen alot of posters with 3 digit post counts with ALOT more interesting stuff to say than some guys with 10,000 posts

It is up to each member if they want to donate to the site. If you feel that the site is worth the money, then being a team member is the way you should go. If you think the site isn't worth the money, then it won't be held against you for not joining the Team.

I would hate to see members being forced to pay money to the site.

I am much more at ease to do an equipment exchange transaction with a team member than a non-team member.
