So, I'm reading that any tattoos visible with the "C" uniform are prohibited...no chance of a waiver? I'm on the west coast where I heard it is more lax.

I have one handsized tattoo on my inner forearm...recruiters haven't said anything to make me worry about except this stuff im reading about on the net.

After xmas I am supposed to get with my recruiter to get the ball rolling on enlisting, so this is just bugging the shit out of me till then!

eta: heres a pic of all my ink minus one other small handsized tat on the other inner forearm....4 total

UPDATE: All went well at meps, I ship to San Diego Recruit Depot on April 20th

I knew a lot od guys with sleeves when I was in. The only thing tattooed guys were excluded from was MSG (embassy duty). A recruiter is not going to waste time with you if your tats are disqualifying. There were guys I went to boot with that had gang tats, just so long as you do not have nazi type or facial tattoos there should not be a problem.

i'm in right now and everybody and their mother has tattoos visible in their chucks, the only thing that i've heard of is that it will hurt you job oppurtunities if you want to reenlist.  so don't expect to do msg duty like said before or become a drill instructor

I was told that at one point in every Marines career, he has to be a DI or a Recruiter....true? Just curious. My father somehow got out of both and did embassy guard duty.

No you don't have to do either. But doing either will help your career, or end it. There is a lot of liability in being a DI or Recruiter. Had a friend of mine almost court martailed because a recruit he put in admitted to having ashtma and claimed he had been told to lie about it. Going out to recruit as a SGT is a very fast way of picking up meritorious SSGT. Another friend of mine picked up SGT just before heading to recruiting. 3 years later he left as a SSGT with a decent placement on the GYSGT list. The SSGT that drove me to meps 9 years ago stayed in recruiting and just pinned on SGTMAJ. So if you want to go into either go for it, but do need feel it is nessesary.

We just got a new guy straight from Basic, AIT, and jump school who has a large one on the side of his neck. Seems they are pretty lenient with waivers these days.

Hmm, I had asthma as a child but i am %110 sure it is gone for good, haven't had any symptoms for maybe 8-10 years. Should I keep my mouth shut?

What would you recommend saying about prior pot use? I read that the limit is "14 times" or such. I very well could have 100's from my earlier teen years but I am well over it! I don't want headaches about petty shit like this...

Tell the recruiter the truth about smoking. As for having smoked "hundreds of times", pot is known to cause memory loss, maybe you smoked it less than you thought.

I have already been truthful about it, just haven't been asked too many details about it and whatnot. I'll keep that in mind.

Do you ever plan on applying for a clearance? If so tell the truth. Sometimes they are very thorough in background investigations and will visit folks you put down on the security questionaire. If there is a chance that anyone you put down knows about your prior use then admit to it, that way if they do ask questions no one has to lie for you. They don't expect saints, they expect honest folks who admit and learn from their mistakes and don't repeat them. The recruiters should tell you the same.

YOu are not REQUIRED to d oa B-billet, but it looks good to the promotion board, as does off duty education.

There are other duties in the B-billet field that you can do, without going MSG, DI or recruiter. However, it is best to do a b-billet of your own choice that be told what you are going to do.

I second that.  I had the same deal. Never had any problems when I was in.
They're gonna try and scare the shit outta you when you get to the island and give you that last chance to come clean.  Don't buy into it.

Don't worry about the tats. In boot they'll hold you down and with a belt sander and rubbing alcohol it'll be gone in five minutes!

One of my guys came to work one Monday with a huge tatto on the front of his neck. He told me on Friday that he was getting it, but I thought he was kidding.
It was a 4 leaf clover made from skulls. It looked pretty cool, but I had to give him the WTF speech. He didn't require a waiver for it though.

There was a guy at my Marine Corps RSS who had a tattoo of some stupid tribal design on the back of his neck.  His waiver was denied and instead of going out and getting the tattoo removed by laser, he got another tattoo on top of it but the new tattoo was just a square with skin tone ink so it was as if he had nothing there.
