Thinking of buying this piece from a guy out of state. Does the extractor look bent up in the area where it enters the serrated area on the slide? Its a SW 1006 10mm.

I think I can even see a fingerprint on the ejector where it looks like someone tried to push it down.

Opinions?

She's a bent! It's hard to tell how it lies from this old pic of my 1006.

It would probably sit flush with a round in the chamber.

Yes

If the price was fair it wouldn't stop me from buying it.

I really don't like that series of pistols, but to have one in 10mm....

No.  It is angled in toward the breechface. It appears bent but isn't.

I'm no expert but I've never seen an external extractor bent like that on any autoloading pistol.

looks pretty flat in that one

Obviously, that one doesn't have the straight, glowing extractor.

I would bet that if you chambered a round, it would sit flush. Looking at the pic, the claw area is lower then the slide and the rear of it is standing proud a bit.

It sure does.

This is the actual part-

Parts for the S&W Gen 1-3 guns are becoming increasing tough to source but they are still out there. Ask the seller what the story on the extractor is.

I would probably pick the pistol up if the price is right, and then give it a good detail strip and go from there, if everything seems legit.

Some of those old single stack S&W 10mms and .45s were great shooters.

I'd ask the seller if it's bent.  Tell him you'll buy it if it's not bent, and get him to send you a few pics of that straight extractor as part of the deal.
If he knows he's going to sell it, he should be willing to send you a few more pics.

Good luck!  Those are great pistols.

FYI - if you need parts/service, I'd go straight to S&W.

the extractor is generally flat with an empty chamber, and slightly raised nearest the chamber when loaded. I don't have any pistols where the rear of the extractor is proud like that at any condition.

I have a 4006 I bought new around 1990. Has less than 1000 rounds through it and my extractor looks like that as well. Never a hiccup.

Just looked at my brand new shield and it is the same way.

That is absolutely normal for a Smith auto loader, I just checked my 3 and they are all like that unloaded, they're also all flawless guns so..
Link Posted: 6/21/2017 9:00:15 PM EDT
Empty chamber.
Link Posted: 6/21/2017 9:02:03 PM EDT
It would take 5 min of your time to replace it.

Beautiful guns.  It's a chamber indicator. protrudes above serrations if empty, flush if chambered.

I have a 3906. Works the same way.

My 1006 extractor is flat all the way across No bend at all. TFE serial prefix

My 5946 that was made in 2014 or 2015 looks the same way when the chamber is empty.

Anything under $600 and you will kick yourself for a long time not buying it. It doesn't help we all know about it now.

I picked up a 4566TSW last year and it was about the last one to sell for under $500 on GB. A 10mm always brings another jump in price from all the collectors scrambling to get the last ones.

Ah, don't worry about the extractor. Worry about the mags. They have been going up even faster.

This is with a loaded chamber.

It appears bent because you can't see the bottom edge in that photo.
