sell high buy low. I'd cash out now and buy back in at the bottom on the hardest hit stocks that have a obvious future and sound financials.

You could double or your money in a few years.

Wasn't your money, sucka. When you threw it out on the craps table called The Stock Market, it slipped from your grasp.

Didn't your momma tell you not to gamble?

Might wanna wait a little while. Some analysts are openly talking about the possibility of Dow 10,000.

Historical performance is not an indicator of future gains. One of these days, it will just not come back up. Probably not this time but maybe next? I'm still all in BTW...

I recon the fed will melt the printing presses trying to stop that. We are all fucked in that case, in the market or not. So, may as well get in.

The only upshot to that: good luck to Hillary trying to explain to the middle class how that shit happened while her party held the White House, cuz they're gonna be pissed.

And if you keep buying, then you've got even more when it goes back up, so I wouldn't think the years would be a waste.

Thought experiment time.

Start: Own 100 shares at $100.
Price drops to $90.
Buy $10,000 worth of shares: +111 shares

Next year, price rises to $95.
Buy $10,000 worth of shares: +105 shares

Next year, price rises back to $100.
Sell 316 shares @ $100 for $31,600

Profit: $1,600
Not so much of a waste after all.

In before the usual suspects that will insist that you won't really lose anything unless you cash out now.

If you don't cash out, all you lose is time.

However long it takes to rebuild it to pre loss level.

What's a few years wasted?

Historically, the party holding the White House has always been blamed for economic downturn, regardless of who holds Congress.

If there is a meltdown between now and November 2016 it is not going to be good news for the Democrats, period.

We pulled EVERYTHING out of stocks several months ago.

I gotta admit, there were a lot of naysayers that were poo-pooing my strategies a few weeks ago.

"You're an idiot! Why don't you just invest it all in an S&P fund and you'll make more money..."

The taste of their bitter tears is sweet.

Guess I timed getting out of equities pretty well.  Now I gotta figure out where the bottom is.

Unless you're gonna retire in the next couple years, don't worry about it. And if you are going to retire in the next few years, you shouldn't have an ultra high ratio of stocks to bonds anyway..

The lower it goes, the more I'll buy because I'm not retiring for at least 20 more years.

I cringe to think how much money and arm twisting that "slight rebound" actually cost.  Hint:  the Fed was not sitting on their asses today.   And then I wonder if they figured that was good enough, or if it was actually the best they could do.   Do they feel the need to make it seem convincing?

To be fair however, they're a hell of a lot more effective at it than the Chinese seem to be.

The only thing the market has going for it is that it's probably a workable place to park money to at least beat inflation - real inflation - and you're probably not going to watch it all evaporate.  ....  Probably.   It is not what people think it is, nor is it anything remotely like what it was 10 years ago.
